About Tom’s Studio
At Tom’s Studio, we make beautiful, innovative tools that inspire creativity—pens, inks, paper, and everything in between. We're reimagining what stationery can be: better for the planet, thoughtfully designed, and a joy to use. Our best-known product, the Lumos, is an infinitely refillable pen made to grow with you and your creativity.
We’re a fast-growing, founder-led lifestyle brand with a strong community of passionate creators around the world. We believe the best ideas come from curiosity, collaboration, and not being afraid to get a little messy.
The Role
We're looking for a hands-on, ideas-driven Design Engineer to join our small but mighty team. You’ll work closely with the founder and our in-house design team to bring new products to life—from first sketch to final prototype, and all the delightful details in between.
This is a role for someone who loves problem-solving, precision, and play. Whether you're refining a nib fit by microns or figuring out how to make a modular system work seamlessly, you’ll be turning creative ideas into real-world products that our customers will treasure.
What you’ll be doing
1. Working with our founder Tom you will be designing and developing new stationery products—pens, tools, and accessories
2. Translating rough concepts into fully engineered CAD models and technical drawings
3. Rapid prototyping using 3D printing, CNC, and other methods
4. Iterating based on testing, customer feedback, and your own curiosity
5. Sourcing materials and liaising with UK and overseas manufacturers
6. Owning the details—tolerances, finishes, packaging specs—to make sure every product is just right
7. Working cross-functionally with design, marketing, and fulfilment to make ideas happen
We’d love it if you have…
1. A degree in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
2. 3+ years of experience in a design engineering or product development role
3. Confidence in CAD (Solidworks or Fusion 360), plus a good grasp of materials and manufacturing processes
4. Hands-on prototyping skills and a love for getting stuck in
5. An eye for detail and a feel for good design
6. Strong problem-solving skills, from complex mechanics to simple tweaks
7. Bonus: experience with sustainability-focused design or consumer products
How to apply
Send your CV, portfolio (or some examples of your work), and a short note on why you’d love to join us to [emailprotected].
We're all about creativity, so feel free to show your personality—whether that’s through your work, your words, or something else entirely.
