Employee Relations Associate - Fixed Term 12-18 month contract
About this role
In HR Shared Services (HRSS), the employee experience is at the heart of everything we do. We strive to deliver HR processes flawlessly and provide a high quality and responsive Employee Relations service to the company. Here at Capital One, we call it Associate Relations (AR). An opportunity has arisen within Associate Relations for an Associate to join this specialist team on a 12-18 month fixed term contract.
The role will take ownership of a range of employee relations cases (either owning the case management for more straightforward cases or working in partnership with more experienced team members to gain experience of higher risk cases). They will provide legislative and best practice advice and coaching to People Leaders and Associates throughout the business on a range of employment topics. There will also be opportunities to engage in HR projects and provide AR consultancy to HR and the business.
What you’ll do
Casework
1. With support from senior team members, partner with the business to deliver high quality and proactive case management support on employee relations issues such as capability, absence management, flexible working, appeals, disciplinary, grievances, and the Equality Act.
2. Provide the business with pragmatic solutions whilst considering the employment, legal and risk framework.
3. Provide coaching to managers to upskill and support them to reach positive outcomes with their associates.
4. Contribute to team development through the sharing of best practice and lessons learnt.
5. Support with maintaining an effective feedback loop with the HR Business Partners to drive change and escalate high risk cases to AR Manager as and when appropriate.
6. Build and leverage relationships across the business to obtain support when formal meeting support is required on case work.
7. Manage all cases in line with well-managed principles.
8. At all times, manage employment-related risk for Capital One.
Projects
1. Support with AR policy development projects that arise (e.g., Legal change).
2. Maintain and continually seek to improve AR Pulse content as a means to support managers and associates both as a learning tool and as a repository of relevant information.
3. Participate in broader HR projects and initiatives that support the AR Agenda.
Other
1. Continually build employee relations technical knowledge through attendance at employment law briefings and conduct self-directed research into best practice.
2. Support with analysing case management data to identify themes and make recommendations to share with the team, thereby driving continuous improvement.
3. Take a proactive approach to the maintenance of AR procedures.
4. Adhere to GDPR and case purging and management requirements.
5. Support on well-managed activities, liaising and coordinating activities in the team.
6. Ensure accurate records are maintained and documentation is stored correctly.
What we’re looking for
1. Prior employee relations case management experience whether in a generalist or specialist role (e.g., absence, capability).
2. Basic knowledge of UK employment law.
3. Experience of dealing with challenging associate-related situations.
4. Willingness to learn and prioritise self-development.
5. Effective stakeholder management and influencing skills.
6. Experience of applying judgement to ambiguous associate situations which could result in risk for the company.
7. Sensitive to associate needs and able to balance those with the needs of the business/employment risk.
8. Good communication skills, written and verbal.
Where and how you'll work
This is a 12-18 month fixed term position and is based in our Nottingham office.
We have a hybrid working model which gives you flexibility to work from our offices and from home. We’re big on collaboration and connection, so you’ll be based in our Nottingham office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
