This permanent role is pivotal in the development and strategic management of the Council's highway assets, ensuring the safety and improvement of the highways network.
Key Responsibilities:
Taking a lead role in the planned and responsive maintenance of footways, drainage, and carriageways
Managing projects funded through new developments, such as section 106 and section 278 agreements
Overseeing externally funded highway works and regeneration streetscape projects
Providing specialist technical overview and design of highway works programmes
Commissioning and managing professional design services and highway works contracts
Ensuring effective performance management and strategic leadership within the team
Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including Transport for London, GLA, and developers
Preparing reports on complex issues for senior management and council committees
Job Requirements:
Significant experience in highway engineering and maintenance
Strong knowledge of highway, transport, and safety legislation
Technical expertise in highway engineering principles and methodologies
Proficiency in project and contract management
Experience in the use of IT, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation packages
Exceptional report writing and presentation skills
Ability to develop and maintain relationships with external organisations and stakeholders
Relevant qualification in engineering or a related field
