We are looking for a new Theatre Assistant to join our Suffolk team, working between our Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds sites. This will be 36 hours over 4 days per week including weekends, on a rota basis.
Main duties of the job
Theatre Assistants are the public face of Newmedica and are integral to the successful operation of the theatre. They are responsible for assisting with the provision of patient care, supporting the operating department and ensuring safe and efficient care is provided to all patients.
Combining a friendly and accessible personal manner with teamwork skills and surgical knowledge, they pride themselves in delivering excellent patient experience. They have the ability to work independently, and within the wider team, to maintain and enhance processes to maximise quality and efficiency.
No clinical knowledge is assumed (full training will be given) but intellectual curiosity is required. It is expected that the companys growth plans will provide ongoing challenges for the post-holders as well as appropriate career development opportunities.

Job responsibilities
Performing the circulator function in the operating theatre, working cohesively with all members of the theatre team to ensure that the very best service is provided to patients.
Perform basic patient observations and recording (e.g. blood pressure, heart rate, blood glucose).
Basic knowledge of surgical equipment including microscope and specialist ophthalmic equipment. Having the ability to troubleshoot when needed.
Maintaining hand hygiene and Infection Prevention and Control standards within a surgical setting.
Providing close support to scrub practitioners and surgeons in the theatre setting; assisting with the WHO checklist pathway, additional patient support when required (hand-holding and moving and handling assistance).
Assisting in the maintenance of required stock levels, and following the escalation process when required.
Managing the relationship with the patient and the provision of appropriate information to them, ensuring that exceptional customer service is delivered.
Management of patient data; ensuring availability of information, required accuracy and confidentiality. This may involve liaising with the reception and clinical team, Newmedicas central operations team and updating Newmedicas electronic patient records accordingly.
Working with other clinic staff, including clinicians to ensure optimal patient flow, including assisting them if required.
Undertaking other ad hoc and administrative tasks as required to ensure the smooth running of theatres.
Appropriate escalation of process, clinical, equipment, quality or infection risk issues.
Maintaining a positive relationship with client teams at every interaction.
Committed to continued professional development and clinical governance, including participating in the appraisal process, completion of mandatory training and clinical audits and research as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* A good level of general education or with equivalent experience
* GCSE Maths and English
Experience
* Proven customer service skills with a passion for customer care. Previous experience of working with patients or carers would be desirable although not essential.
* Ability to build a working knowledge of eye physiology and treatment. Previous experience is not expected.
* Fully computer literate - comfortable with Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn new patient record systems.
