We’ve teamed up with an award-winning quantum hardware startup, who enable secure encryption through harnessing the power of photonics and quantum mechanics. As one of the UK’s many university spinout success stories, they’re currently a team of 25, made up of specialists in quantum physics, firmware, hardware and software. Due to continued growth, they’re looking to hire an Optoelectronics Engineer to bolster their engineering capability. Please note that they are based in Oxford, with a hybrid working policy. You should expect to be in the office 2-3 days a week, though there is flexibility where necessary. What experience will I need? Proven background in electronics/photonics, ideally with a relevant technical qualification Experience in designing & testing optoelectronic devices. Skilled in analogue & high-speed digital electronics (circuit design, PCB etc.). Familiar with PCB design software like Altium, Cadence or Allegro. Well-versed in photonic device integration with laser diodes, splitters, amplifiers. R&D driven, comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment. Any awareness of quantum computing, photonics or cryptography would be useful. What will my day-to-day look like? This position is involved from PoC design to product. You would bridge photonics & electronics, supporting the design & development of optoelectronic components, including PICs, photodetectors, laser drivers and control electronics. You’ll contribute to prototyping, working with fibre-optic systems, mechanical assembly and optoelectronic testing. As well as that, you’ll be accountable for creating and executing tests for functional optoelectronic device qualification.
