What you’ll be doing – your accountabilities
As a Network Design Specialist you will be accountable for
* Carrying out feasibility and rapid impacts assessments and inputting to business cases.
* Deciding on design scope of the overall network platform and/or customer solution including high and low level designs
* Designing, validating & testing (DVT) innovative and architecturally aligned network solutions that meet business requirements
* Ensuring security capabilities are built in from the outset
* Providing technical guidance to Platforms, OSS teams, Test, Delivery and Operations to ensure smooth delivery of changes to Live.
* Acting as point of contact for technical expertise to project senior stakeholders, both internal and customers.
* A mentor and share knowledge with others, and be an advanced user of design tools.
* Encouraging network designers to identify opportunities to follow design best practice.
* Proposing technical strategy for network platforms in conjunction with platform managers
* Engaging with suppliers to ensure technical capabilities meet BT needs
The skills you’ll need to succeed
* Deep knowledge of Network design principles and practice
* Knowledge of Optical, Ethernet and Mobile Backhaul Technologies, IP and VPN
* In-Life problem resolution and performance
* Be inquisitive and challenging
* Practicing/emerging Dev Ops Engineer who understands software and network combinations to a practitioner level
* Educated to degree level or equivalent in engineering, member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. IET
Experience you’d be expected to have
* Accomplished and experienced network designer
* successful track record of leading complex design deliveries, including initial feasibilities and prof of concepts
* Delivering on time and to budget
* Have led teams through significant change and developed an innovative, challenging and supportive team culture
* Knowledge of the commercial market place, including technical innovations which could be used to drive market growth and revenue
