Interim Student Personal Development Manager Role Overview: The primary purpose of this role is to oversee and implement the personal development programme for students, adult learners, and apprentices, which includes developing materials for tutors, promoting student voice programmes, and organising enrichment activities and events that align with national and local priorities. In this role, you will manage teams responsible for student personal development, pastoral support, enrichment, and learning resources, ensuring the provision of an outstanding service that supports student progression and successful post-education outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Lead the planning, development, and delivery of a comprehensive personal development calendar, ensuring activities and topics are in line with the personal development curriculum and meet Ofsted standards. Develop, implement, and maintain tutorial resources (TMail) for various learner levels, working closely with the curriculum and quality teams. Deliver training and coaching for tutors on personal development topics and teaching strategies to enhance delivery. Oversee and manage the planning and delivery of Freshers’ Fairs, enterprise competitions, and other cross-college events. Ensure that adequate resources are available for student induction programmes to create an excellent student experience. Lead the delivery of student voice processes, which include recruiting and training student representatives, organizing departmental boards, and facilitating an annual student conference. Coordinate the cross-college enrichment programme, monitor engagement, and increase student and apprentice participation. Support the Students’ Union Executives in promoting relevant student initiatives, voice activities, and enrichment opportunities. Lead the Student Awareness & Engagement Group, including overseeing the Student Eco-Council, and contribute to the College Environment & Sustainability Group. Manage the pastoral support services for EHCP and high-needs students enrolled in vocational courses. Design and deliver intervention packages for students requiring additional support, including managing referrals to PD coaches and collaborating with curriculum and support managers. Ensure the effective management and maintenance of high-quality learning resource centres at both campuses. Establish effective systems to monitor participation and assess the impact of all personal development activities.Additional Responsibilities: Ensure the safety and security of the college environment by challenging suspicious behaviour and reporting any concerns. Remain vigilant to health and safety issues, offering support to the Health & Safety Officer as needed. Liaise with the Student Liaison Team to address issues related to student behaviour and welfare.People Management Responsibilities: Line manage the PD Coach team, Learning Resource Centre (LRC) team, Gym Supervisor, and Pastoral Support Co-Ordinator. Act as a proactive line manager and role model for staff, supervising workloads and ensuring high performance. Lead recruitment and onboarding processes for new staff and ensure they receive appropriate training and inductions. Manage staff performance through regular appraisals, setting measurable targets, and ensuring that performance improvement plans are in place when necessary. Provide guidance and feedback during regular one-to-one meetings with staff. Ensure all staff hold the necessary qualifications for their roles and receive annual training in line with department needs and the college’s strategic goals. Ensure compliance with college employment policies and procedures by all staff members.Skills and Experience Required: Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in people management and staff development. Proven ability to develop and implement educational programmes and student support services. Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work across multiple teams. Knowledge of personal development curricula, student voice initiatives, and enrichment programmes. Ability to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of personal development activities.
