Our trainee pharmacist positions allow the trainee to develop and apply the skills acquired at undergraduate level. Learning is experiential and the trainee will develop their skills by providing pharmaceutical care and dispensary services. This is a training role accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will follow a structured timetable rotating through the main hospital specialties. During the training year, the trainee will gain the skills and knowledge to meet the GPhC learning outcomes and pass the registration assessment.
About us
We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale, as well as over 80 other community-based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
Rotations will cover dispensary services, developing competence in dispensing accuracy checking and clinical checking. Rotations through the various specialties will include carrying out medicines reconciliation, discharge planning, patient consultations, and working with the multidisciplinary team to provide excellent pharmaceutical care to patients. Depending on the training position chosen, training will be supplemented by spending time in at least two of the following areas: community pharmacy, GP surgery, Health and Justice services, or a Mental Health Trust.

Statutory Registration
* Eligible to register as a trainee pharmacist with the GPhC.
Special Skills & Knowledge
* Demonstrates knowledge of the Foundation training scheme set by the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Applies clinical knowledge in the practicing environment; draws all knowledge together and builds upon what has been learnt to benefit the person receiving care.
* Demonstrates knowledge of Pharmacy in Practice.
* Demonstrates awareness of roles and functions of the wider pharmacy team.
Qualifications
* Will have a Masters degree from a UK university or OSPAP scheme and meets the requirements for Foundation training set by the General Pharmaceutical Council at intended start date.
Experience
* Currently enrolled at a UK school of Pharmacy and has successfully completed 3 years of degree and is on course to successfully complete the final year. Or has completed an overseas pharmacy qualification and is enrolled on the OSPAP programme.
* Demonstrates experience of direct patient or public contact in a public-facing role.
* Demonstrates prior pharmacy-related experience outside of the pharmacy qualification.
