Location: Derby, Warrington or Manchester / Hybrid
Salary: £57,600 - £75,600 + Excellent benefits
We are Rolls-Royce SMR, and we’re revolutionising an industry. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.
We are now recruiting for a Lead C&I Engineer to be involved in delivering an industry-leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station.
What we’re looking for
As the Lead C&I Engineer, you will provide technical expertise across the lifecycle of C&I Systems for the SMR nuclear power plant. This covers the delivery of the complete design of the Control and Instrumentation systems, spanning system architecture, sub-system design, and equipment specification and design/selection to realise the final verified design of the power station. You will work closely with the engineering teams from across the power station and apply a structured systems engineering approach to design.
1. Working with Process Engineers to translate high-level requirements into a specification for Control and Instrumentation (C&I) systems.
2. Liaise with other disciplines to understand functional performance capabilities of components and systems to facilitate effective system design.
3. Assess and substantiate that the design specification meets the requirements.
4. Ensuring compliance against international standards, in particular, IEC 61513, IEC 61226, and IEC 61508.
5. Produce Validation Plans and define test plans to demonstrate that the C&I system requirements have been satisfied.
6. Support planning and implementation of policies and procedures related to the lifecycle of C&I systems.
7. Ensure that optimum solutions are provided for the RR SMR Nuclear Power Plant by supporting the procurement, operations, and maintenance aspects of the equipment.
8. Contribute to the production of safety cases and provide support in liaising with regulators and independent nuclear safety assessors.
As we strive to find the best fit for this position, we are seeking individuals with a minimum level of experience, training, and qualification. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.
Key selection criteria for this role are:
1. Comprehensive C&I System Design Proficiency
Deep knowledge and experience in the systematic design lifecycle of a C&I system including specification, design, assessment, verification, testing, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of safety or process-critical C&I systems.
2. Adherence to Industry Standards
Knowledge and experience of relevant industry standards for systems important to safety (e.g., IEC 61508, IEC 61226, IEC 61513).
3. Application of Advanced System Methodologies
Knowledge and experience of applying systems engineering methodologies including Model Based Systems Engineering to C&I systems.
4. Effective Stakeholder Communication
Experience in taking information, understanding, and presenting it in an appropriate and compelling format, which includes formal communications to the appropriate stakeholders, including regulatory bodies.
5. Technical Oversight Proficiency
Proven track record of providing technical leadership in C&I discipline with an ability to provide technical oversight of the work carried out by others.
Training & Qualification Requirements
Hold a degree-level qualification in one or more of the engineering disciplines of electrical, electronics, instrumentation, control systems, mechatronics, physics, or computer science. Applicants without a degree who can nevertheless demonstrate suitable experience may also be considered.
Pay and Benefits
We anticipate paying a salary of between £57,600 - £75,600 (DOE) plus:
1. Bonus - Performance-related bonus of up to 12.5%
2. Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum
3. Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
