About Our Devonport Team:
Royal HaskoningDHV have secured a place on the Design services Framework (DSF) in support of the Major Infrastructure Programme (MIP) of works in Devonport Dockyard for Babcock International. In conjunction with a framework partner, we are providing technical resources into Babcock International and are also delivering packages of multidisciplinary engineering for projects across the site. Our Devonport resources form part of one of the largest and most experienced teams of naval shipyard and multi-disciplinary port professionals globally.
Currently work is delivered off site through our network UK offices however the strategic ambition is to grow an office through relocation and recruitment. The Delivery Director will be a major appointment for Royal HaskoningDHV to be based in our Exeter office and with the aim to support and grow the team with Engineers and Project Managers to support the continued success of Devonport Dockyard.
Role Context:
The Delivery Director will be based in or near to Plymouth where the overarching focus is to provide leadership and guidance throughout the entire project management lifecycle. An influencing communication style is a necessity as we are involved in a range of projects, so you’ll need to engage with a variety of stakeholders.
The role will require senior level engagement with the Client making sure that the wider team has a clear understanding of:
* Our ongoing performance and where we can improve based on client/stakeholder engagement
* The forward pipeline of projects to enable focused shaping and resource planning of opportunities (both from the client and other parties on site),
The Delivery Director will also have an active role in ongoing projects to make sure that cost, programme, and technical expectations are achieved. You should be able to take on the Project Manager role if required.
Example projects:
* Design of dry dock mechanical infrastructure
* Development of coordinated BIM models of existing infrastructure
* Supporting the user acceptance group through the provision of subject matter experts
* Design of building modifications to accommodate alternative uses in an existing warehouse
Whilst the focus is on Devonport Dockyard, the Delivery Director will bring their wider experience to supporting the wider strategic goals regionally, nationally, and internationally of Royal HaskoningDHV.
Job Role:
You will develop strong relationships with existing and future stakeholders. This will include undertaking project tasks and delivering results. You will have the autonomy to work in your own style to achieve the below with support from the wider business:
* Project and programme organisation and oversight
* Key Point of Contact with the client on administrative and technical subjects
* Be a figure of authority, trust and support for the Project Managers and wider project delivery team
* Scope, time, cost, risk, quality, and procurement direction
* Oversee preparation of proposals
* Provide sound engineering judgement and advice.
* Utilise Learning from Experience to drive performance to deliver results
* Work across Business Lines to ensure common purpose for the delivery of projects
* Work closely with the Key Account Manager in relation to the projects at Devonport
* Demonstrating behaviour that ensures your health and safety and that of others.
Essential skills and experience:
* Minimum of BSc/BEng
* Membership of appropriate engineering professional body
* Experience in a Senior Project Management/Director position and a recognised member of a project management body e.g APM/PMI
* Demonstrate excellent project leadership skills on highly regulated industry and complex projects
* Have a strong understanding of the MOD and Babcock International processes
* Able to be onsite in Devonport for up to two days a week
* Have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships quickly and confident in engaging client leadership teams
* Have an awareness of the law and legal systems in which UK projects are run
* Ability to achieve Security Clearance (if not held already)
* Must be able to be decisive when making decisions whilst leading projects
Desirable to have:
* Strong Civil, Mechanical or other Engineering knowledge
* Knowledge of NEC Contract tender preparation and contract management
* Experience of working in shipyards or naval bases
* Awareness of industry procedures and best practice
* Excellent managerial, commercial, and technical track record
* Understanding of naval base infrastructure from an engineering perspective
