JOB PURPOSE Perform a range of dispensing and medicine supply functions in order to provide an efficient pharmaceutical service to wards and departments. These will be predominantly concerned with labelling, assembly, preparation, dispensing, accuracy checking and issuing of pharmaceuticals. There will be some audit, stock control and clerical duties assigned to this post. JOB DIMENSIONS There are no line management responsibilities for this post. The post holder will support, supervise and train other staff within the department. The post holder may be required to support other dispensaries or departments in addition to that where they are usually based. The post holder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays on a rotational basis and if appropriate undertake the role and responsibility of the Lead Technician for their shift. Liaise with GPs and carers where appropriate Contribute to develop new ways of working and implementation of new policies and procedures Support, supervise and train staff allocated to section Provide ad-hoc cover for Pharmacy Technician Specialist in their absence. Receive support from other operational managers during this time. Supporting the Pharmacy Technician Specialist in ensuring accurate stock levels are maintained. Undertaking technical responsibilities at ward level and in out-patient clinics. This will include reviewing prescriptions, taking drug histories and initiating medicine supplies. Ensure that medicines are stored safely, securely and are in date and suitable for use Prioritise workload and analyse situations to resolve problems Participate in recruitment and selection of junior technical staff Provide information to patients/carers and other service users on routine medicine enquires Accurately label, assemble, prepare and dispense medicines to wards, in-patients and out-patients attending clinics. Ensuring the standard operating procedures are adhered to. Taking payments for prescription charges Labelling and dispensing of un-licensed and clinical trial medicines to set protocols. Accurately label and dispense of Controlled Drugs, including accurate record keeping and secure storage. Participate in stock takes for assigned dispensary Assist in ordering processes for medicines and consumables, including requisitioning, unpacking, checking, booking in and storage. Resolve immediate problems with out of stock medicines, analysing the situation and liaising with wards, pharmacists and suppliers where necessary Ensure all medicines released to wards are distributed in a safe and secure manner following SOP. Reception duties to include: - incoming calls, booking work in and out of the pharmacy logger system and responsible for receipts of money for prescription charges. Dealing with patients and carers. Perform clerical tasks associated with the dispensary e.g. filing, expiry date checks and data collection for statistics. Participate and encourage others to ensure good housekeeping is maintained. Participate with recycling of medicines Participate in the weekend and Bank Holiday working on a rotational basis. Other duties associated with providing an efficient Pharmacy Service to patients and wards.
