The role
We are looking for a Principal Surveyor to lead a team of surveyors to ensure that a high-quality customer-focused service is provided to create safe, accessible, and sustainable homes for the residents of Gateway Housing Association. The post holder will lead on strategic asset management workstreams and provide technical and expert advice on complex or sensitive service delivery improvements and provide recommendation reports to senior management.
Accountabilities
Your accountabilities will include but are not limited to:
* Manage and supervise the work of the surveying team, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
* Review procurement documentation and tender submissions in relation to Asset Management, providing support and guidance for colleagues.
* Develop and implement asset management plans, focusing on sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
* Manage and monitor contractors to ensure work is of high quality and meets specifications.
* Procure or prepare programmes, structural reports, feasibility studies, and tenders for capital and revenue programmes, including environmental works, ensuring team members fulfil their roles using expert knowledge.
* Critically analyse and evaluate performance and financial data on projects, contractors, consultants, and the overall capital programme, managing contractors and consultants' performance against agreed targets.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and consumer standards in all aspects of the role.
* Support the Compliance Manager in managing compliance, including attending in-house asset compliance working group meetings as required.
* Contribute to the development of the asset management budgets and Gateway’s long-term financial plan.
Key Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
* Ability to demonstrate a comprehensive working understanding of technical surveying, its practical enforcement, and wide expertise across all aspects of Asset Management.
* Senior management experience with extensive knowledge of asset management.
* Strong leadership and project management skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience engaging with customers, colleagues, external stakeholders, and enforcing bodies.
* BSc in Building Surveying / higher diploma level or suitable alternative professional qualification or commensurate experience.
* Relevant surveying qualification Professional qualification in surveying (e.g., RICS or equivalent).
* Extensive experience in property management and building surveying.
* Experience of reviewing Policies, supporting tendering and procurement activities.
