As a Pipe Stress Engineer, you will play a supportive role in the design, manufacture and safety justification of Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP) pipework and components. Working closely with other teams and specialist functions (including fluid systems engineers and stress experts), you will carry out ASME B&PVC Section III, NB-3600 and NCD-3600 analyses of pipework systems and produce supporting technical substantiation reports. The work is interesting and varied; there will be situations in which you will be relied upon to respond rapidly to emergent challenges, providing a vital and valued service to the Submarines enterprise. The department also covers other forms of structural integrity assessment using FEA methods which presents further opportunity for development. What you will be doing : You will be w orking with transient specifications, pipework arrangement drawings, CAD models and fluid systems specifications to undertake ASME Section III NB and NCD pipework analyses. Produce pipework substantiation documentation in support of safety case development covering the whole plant life cycle meeting agreed programme dates. Using assessment work to develop and substantiate pipework designs, inform through-life management and regulatory approval for current class, in-build, and future class submarines. Development and implementation of methodologies to assess NSRP pipework systems. Relaying the method and outcome of assessments, clearly and efficiently, to a range of audiences at all seniorities within Rolls-Royce, industry partners and customer organisations. Responding to emergent issues, as part of a dynamic team, to support the fleet. Qualified to degree level, or with equivalent experience, in mechanical engineering, or similar discipline. Able to prioritise tasks and work effectively on multiple projects at the same time. Demonstrate interest and expertise in pipework structural integrity analysis. Able to communicate effectively with a variety of partner and customer functions both internally and externally. Desirable: Previous experience as a pipe stress engineer within the nuclear industry. Familiarity in the use of Autopipe Nuclear and/or pipestress (PepS) pipework analytical software. Good IT skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft office applications and data manipulation tools (eg Python and Excel). Experience of working in an industry where safety is a priority and in which components are justified to safety cases and/or design code requirements.
