Background
We are PKAVS, we are an incorporated charity that serves the community of Perth & Kinross offering five community-led services supported by a team of 80 colleagues and up to 50 volunteers.
We operate across five locations in Perth & Kinross under our service banners which include Carers PKAVS, the Third Sector Interface, The Walled Garden & Wisecraft PKAVS, Shopmobility PKAVS, and the Big Hoose Project.
We offer these varied social care and welfare services as well as support and advocacy to Perth & Kinross' dynamic third sector.

Carers PKAVS is our largest service. We provide support and respite care to unpaid carers aged 5+ across Perth & Kinross at our Carers Centre in Lewis Place Perth.
The Third Sector Interface is administered by PKAVS on behalf of the Scottish Government and provides four crucial support workstreams to the third sector in Perth & Kinross from the Gateway in Perth
• Voice – supporting the voice of the third sector.
• Connect – Connecting communities through the third sector.
• Building Capacity – supporting the development and growth of the third sector.
• Volunteering – developing and growing the volunteer programme to support the ongoing operation of third sector organisations.
Walled Garden & Wisecraft PKAVS - provides therapeutic support and engagement activities that serve to improve the mental health and well-being of the people of Perth & Kinross from their two locations at the Walled Garden & Cafe in Perth and at the Wisecraft Workshop in Blairgowrie.
Shopmobility PKAVS promotes independence in the community by providing mobility support equipment from its purpose built Shopmobility hub in Perth's Canal St car park.
The Big Hoose project supports children and families in Perth & Kinross living in poverty with access to free everyday household items such as toilet rolls, toiletries, cleaning products, bedding and more.
We have been supporting communities across Perth & Kinross for over 50 years; however, there has never been a more exciting time to join us.
The Young Adult Carers Service offers information, advice, and support to young people and works in partnership with other agencies to deliver a range of activities that enable young people with caring responsibilities to be children first. Integral to this approach is the provision of advocacy services to Young Adult Carers so that their voice may be heard in a number of situations, including attendance at Children’s Panels and Court Hearings, case conferences with Social Work and Education & Children’s Services.
Role
We are looking for a highly motivated person to work within a small, supportive, and dynamic team striving to recognise and enhance the potential of young people. Whilst a relevant qualification is desirable, experience of working with and being able to engage directly with young people and their families is an essential element of this role.
You will be involved in developing and delivering a range of support mechanisms for Young Adult Carers between the ages of 18-25 years. You will assist with the planning, preparation, and evaluation of the support packages available to them and will be responsible for the future development and sustainability ensuring that the needs of Young Adult Carers are being met.
You must have a flexible approach, working in collaboration with team members, volunteers, and external agencies in developing and participating in a range of activities and support services being delivered.
Key Objectives
1. Provide appropriate support to Young Adult Carers; help them identify their needs and the impact caring has.
2. Raise awareness of the Young Adult Carers Project within statutory and voluntary service providers within Perth & Kinross.
3. Champion the rights and well-being of Young Adult Carers by raising awareness sessions through the delivery of presentations at schools, colleges, job centres and community groups, and other external agencies.
4. Support the smooth transition of Young Adult Carers into Adult Carer support services.
5. Develop respite opportunities for Young Adult Carers including groups, activities, and day trips and residentials.
6. Provide 1:1 support sessions with Young and Young Adult Carers aged between 18-25 years old.
7. Complete small pot funding applications to assist with delivery of service.
Duties and Responsibilities
_ Young Adult Carers Support _
1. Undertake assessments to identify the impact of the caring role on different areas of the young adult carers life with a focus on outcomes.
2. Ensure internal support is provided and where necessary signposting or referring to external services.
3. Provide 1:1 support when there is a need for emotional, practical, or crisis support.
4. Plan and deliver respite opportunities, including groups, day trips and residentials.
5. Increase support and opportunities available to young adult carers through partnership working.
6. Manage a caseload including new referrals from young carers, external agencies, and self-referrals, and annual reviews.
7. Ensure a smooth transition between the services, working with the young carers team and adult carers team.
8. Allow young adult carers to participate in the planning and development of the service through consultations and the YAC voice.
9. Ensure accurate and up-to-date carer
10. Promote the service and up date service-users via social media.
11. Oversee the young adult carer budget and meet funding report deadlines.
1. Carry out the duties of this post with due regard to Equal Opportunities, Child Protection Policies, and the Carers Act.
2. Ensure that operational policies and procedures for this support service are being met.
3. Attend and participate in regular team meetings.
4. Seek personal support and opportunities for self-development where appropriate.
5. Undertake any other duties required to develop and achieve the aims and objectives of the Young Adult Carers Service and the Carers Hub.
6. Be responsible for recording contacts on client management database.
