Job summary
The Middlesbrough Treatment and Intervention Team are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Specialist - Nurse/AHP to join our team. The successful applicant will be joining the team during an exciting period of change, as part of community transformation. This is the ideal opportunity to drive change and develop your leadership and change management skills.
You will be an active member of the leadership team, whilst clinically leading the team and supporting with service improvement and operational duties when required. This will include delivering caseload management, clinical supervision, staff development/training and advanced nursing approaches.
We are looking to appoint someone who is dynamic and enthusiastic about working with this patient group. In exchange the successful candidate will be well supported within a welcoming multi-disciplinary team, with continuing opportunities for their ongoing professional development.
Applicants must already hold the essential qualifications required.
Main duties of the job
1. To be the professional lead for nurses/AHP in the designated specialty, leading on professional development and ensuring the delivery of robust evidence based practice.
2. To lead the establishment of systems that support the development of clinical practice, to ensure that the developments are embedded within the team and are sustainable.
3. To ensure high professional standards of nursing practice in accordance with the NMC code of Conduct, with professional accountability to the Nursing and Governance Directorate.
4. To support the team manager and other senior clinical staff in establishing and maintaining high standards and continual improvement within the established governance framework.
5. To undertake ongoing audit of care and service delivery, underpinned by research and evidence-based practice.
6. To coordinate and deliver clinical supervision to support all nursing staff within the area of responsibility.
7. To provide nurse led diagnosis and treatment planning.
8. To promote at all times a positive image of people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities.
9. To promote at all times a positive image of the specialist service area and the wider Trust.

Qualifications/Experience
Essential
1. Registration with relevant professional body (NMC, GMC, HCPC, Social Work-England).
2. For nursing professions - Recognised Practice Supervisor and/or Practice Assessor, clinical educator or equivalent.
3. Trained in providing clinical supervision.
4. For other professions - evidence of training in clinical supervision of other staff and able to demonstrate competence in this area of practice.
5. All professions - Postgraduate diploma (or above) in a subject relevant to the area of practice or be willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years.
6. Within the first year of being in post hold a recognised advanced clinical qualification or Masters level credits.
7. Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master's level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience.
8. Substantial clinical experience of working in relevant specialist area in collaboration with service users, families and relevant others.
9. Experience of assessing and managing risk (harm to self, others and safeguarding).
10. Substantial experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
11. Involvement in quality improvement activities.
Knowledge
Essential
1. Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally.
2. Experience of application of relevant legislation (Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act) in practice.
3. Communicate complex and sensitive information appropriate to the individual and situation.
4. Working knowledge of clinical medicines management.
5. Detailed understanding of safeguarding and its application to practice.
6. Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment (depending on specialist area).
