JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose:
The Technical Lead reports functionally to the Engineering Manager and is the technical expert within the team to support resolution of topics and queries. They support the NSSS Auxiliary Piping scope, covering high integrity large and small bore piping, supports (EM04), and Instrumentation (EM09) within the Safeguard, Fuel, Auxiliary, and Reactor Buildings. Instrumentation is a subset of the NSSS scope, focusing on small instrumentation piping and cabinets.
The role involves supporting the full off-site delivery lifecycle, ensuring delivery to plan, mitigating risks, and supporting review and acceptance of design by various parties under Nuclear Services oversight. The TL ensures engineering delivery from all parties up to site delivery (HO3), in line with the project schedule, safety, quality, and cost parameters. They also support the transfer of engineering responsibility from EPM to the JDO during post HO3 activities.
Dimensions:
The TL manages engineering issues across the entire off-site lifecycle, including early warnings, technical queries, design changes, and open points. They liaise with all contributing parties to ensure information exchange and role fulfillment. Responsibilities include resolving technical topics, managing contractual correspondence, supporting engineering support, and ensuring design interfaces and supplier feedback are effectively managed.
The main responsibilities include overseeing resolution of piping and instrumentation issues, ensuring timely responses, evaluating risks, supporting engineering support, and managing design interfaces and feedback. Specific topics include valves, execution design surveillance, high energy line breaks, stress corrosion cracking, painting, pre-fabrication, and upcoming topics.
Key Interfaces:
The TL supports stakeholders such as the Engineering Manager, Responsible Designer Contract Lead, Nuclear Services, Fabricators/Manufacturers, JDO, Quality, and other HPC Engineering entities. They facilitate technical resolution, design delivery, and quality assurance across these interfaces.
Nature and Scope:
The role provides technical leadership to ensure delivery aligned with safety, quality, time, and cost principles. It requires strong discipline expertise and facilitation skills to resolve engineering issues, with frequent interactions on site with various stakeholders.
Qualifications:
* Mechanical Engineering knowledge, experience with piping and instrumentation design, ideally in a nuclear environment.
* Proven track record in complex projects, ensuring safety, security, and environmental responsibility.
* Awareness of management systems, policies, procedures, standards, and documents.
* Stakeholder engagement and issue resolution skills.
* Excellent communication, organizational, and facilitation skills.
* Strong numerical and analytical skills.
* Degree and chartered status in engineering or related field.
* Knowledge of CDM Regulations.

The position is based at the EDF Site Delivery Centre in Bridgwater.
