Autistic man mid 30’s with learning and communication difficulties is looking for a PA/Support Worker who would like to share in any or all of the activities above.
This can be an exciting job for someone who would like to gain a unique perspective on learning difficulties, disability, and social inclusion. You will have many stimulating and interesting opportunities to make the most of your work experience while you learn a wide range of creative techniques, including using ‘Makaton’ signing and non-verbal communication skills.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
* PAY: £13.50ph
* 6 - 12-week induction period
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate required
* You will preferably live in Lambeth, one of the surrounding boroughs, or you can easily travel to Brixton hill.
* Permanent employment for up to 30 hours 5 days a week. BUT fewer hours are also available i.e. 10-20 hours a week over 2 or more days.
* Flexible working and applicants seeking part-time work are keenly sought.

JOB DESCRIPTION
You will be provided with all necessary training; however, you will also need to be prepared to provide support and assistance with the following:
* Social/leisure needs: participation in activities of personal interest and discovering new activities e.g. of shared interest.
* Mobility needs: assistance on journeys including all forms of public and (as appropriate) private transport.
* Communication needs: mostly use of non-verbal communication, ‘Makaton’ signing, pictorial symbols, and facilitated communication (if required appropriate training provided).
* Personal/Self-care needs: basic assistance with personal hygiene and dressing and some verbal support e.g. staying safe and private when using public toilets.
* Diet: Support with food selection and preparation.
* Learning needs: some support in learning settings e.g. work or college (not learning assistant level).
* Other reasonable household duties: related to supporting individual's independence.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
This job is best suited to someone who is enthusiastic, energetic, creative, imaginative, open-minded, and friendly with a positive/light-hearted sense of humour.
It would be a great advantage if you can demonstrate the following:
* Ability to share knowledge in all or some of the following: use of the internet and computers/tablet/iPad, live music, visual arts, cooking, travel, environmental conservation, gym, cycling, swimming, or other interests.
* Behaviour which is honest, reliable, and responsible and also able to be self-reflective and keep brief records.
* Very good social skills.
* Confidence and able to be assertive but also patient and flexible.
* Ability to be empathetic and sensitive to the individual and personal needs of someone who has significant learning difficulties. Able to acknowledge their strengths and be appropriately responsive to their difficulties/challenges.
* Ability to learn how to communicate non-verbally and willingness to learn how to enable and facilitate inclusion and participation in mainstream society.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, use own initiative and make appropriate decisions in potentially challenging situations.
* Respect for the privacy of the family and ability to keep all information about family and their friends confidential.
Whilst working, adopt behaviour that acknowledges and respects the family's values.
