Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the setup and management of our new processing facility. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for overseeing all operational aspects, from initial design input and equipment commissioning to full-scale production and compliance with industry regulations. You will manage a growing team, ensure product quality, and develop processes that align with our strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plant design input and commissioning prior to construction
* Manage preparations for production
* Operational Management:
* Coordinate scheduling of work for customers in collaboration with the sales team.
* Oversee storage, logistics, and dispatch processes, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
* Manage operational teams working on a 24/7 schedule, addressing staffing and shift pattern challenges.
* Implement and manage an ERP or materials management system for traceability and inventory control.
* Quality and Compliance:
* Set up quality processes and change controls in line with industry best practices.
* Maintain and assure compliance with HACCP, TACCP, and VACCP plans.
* Ensure compliance with BRC standards, understanding that accreditation requires 3-6 months of operational data.
* Liaise with Environmental Health Officers and other regulators to secure necessary inspections and approvals.
* Health and Safety:
* Serve as the accountable person for Health & Safety and Food Safety on site.
* Team Leadership:
* Manage a team growing from 5 to 13 staff members as operations scale up.
* Foster a collaborative working environment with interfaces across sales, development, finance, and external stakeholders.
* Process Improvement and R&D Support
Qualifications and Experience:
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience at a leadership team level in a food manufacturing or processing environment.
* Proven experience in operations leadership at a BRC-accredited site with AA grading under unscheduled visit status.
* Degree or Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Engineering, Processing, or a related discipline.
* Preferably:
* Food Safety for Manufacturing Level 3 certification.
* IOSH or NEBOSH Managing Safely trained.
* Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing accreditation.
* Extensive experience with ERP systems and sales and operations planning processes.
* Familiarity with FMCG, food, or pharmaceutical operational environments.
* Demonstrated experience in compliance, safety, and engineering responsibilities.

Pay: £55,000.00-£70,000.00 per year
