Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Clinical Biochemistry Department of our ISO15189:2022 accredited laboratory at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. We provide diagnostic and monitoring services to patients across a wide geographical area and support our acute services across both the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole General Hospital within the Trust.

Main Duties of the Job
A new £25 million state-of-the-art building has been built at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and officially opened May 2024. A new pathology computer system linking all the pathology laboratories in the county is now up and running and we have recently completed a major analyser refresh across the S6 Network.
Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital but you will be required to work across site.

Rota: You will be required to be involved in the out of hours rota.
The successful applicant will:
1. Be required to act in a scientific role in the analysis of blood, body fluids, tissues and cells using specialised laboratory equipment to determine the presence or absence of disease, enabling diagnosis and also to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
2. Be responsible for delegated tasks, involved in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of a clinical pathology service that enables high standards of patient care.
3. Act as a deputy to the section leader (band 7 BMS).
4. Assist in the teaching and development of trainee staff and support workers.
5. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in Biochemistry as part of their continuing professional development (CPD).
Participation in the out of hours rota is expected.

1. Health Professions Council (HCPC) for Registration
2. Honours degree or equivalent in a biological science which is acceptable by Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)
3. Completion of IBMS Registration Portfolio

1. Working towards IBMS Specialist Portfolio

2. Current experience within UKAS accredited laboratory
