We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 18,000 employees spanning over 100 countries.
People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.
What is the role?
Howden is seeking a Tax Accountant to join our Group Tax team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on both group and UK tax matters, while also gaining exposure to international tax compliance and reporting. You’ll be part of a collaborative team where you’ll be supported in developing your expertise across different areas of tax, from compliance and reporting to M&A and transfer pricing.
We’re looking for someone with a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to tackling tax challenges. If you’re a team player with great communication skills and a drive to grow, we’d love to hear from you.
Please note this is a full-time, permanent role based in our Central London office. Following a hybrid work pattern, the expectation is for you to be onsite 2-3 days per week on average.
What will you be doing?
1. Assist with the Group’s tax reporting requirements, including interim and full-year consolidated financial statements.
2. Support the outsourced UK tax compliance process, reviewing returns for a portfolio of entities and coordinating with external providers.
3. Review overseas tax returns and local tax charges, working closely with international finance teams.
4. Assist with Country-by-Country reporting and compliance with Pillar 2 tax regulations.
5. Perform monthly reconciliations of tax postings and balances.
6. Contribute to the tax input for cash tax forecasts and budgeting.
7. Get involved in ad hoc M&A and restructuring projects, providing valuable tax insight.
8. Support compliance with Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) regulations, including sample testing and reporting findings.
9. Handle ad-hoc tax-related queries, such as certificates of residency and FATCA documentation.
10. Provide assistance to the Transfer Pricing and VAT teams on various matters.
What are we looking for?
1. Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within a large company environment.
2. Experience in tax reporting and compliance processes, preferably in the financial services sector.
3. Familiarity with tax software and accounting systems (experience with OneStream is a plus).
4. ACA, ACCA, and/or CTA qualified (or part-qualified).
What do we offer in return?
A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity – there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:
1. Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new.
2. We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges.
3. We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond.
Reasonable adjustments
We're committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs. Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours or hybrid working.
If you're excited by this role but have some doubts about whether it’s the right fit for you, send us your application – if your profile fits the role’s criteria, we will be in touch to assist in helping to get you set up with any reasonable adjustments you may require.
