We are currently looking for an experienced Wind Tunnel Engineering Deputy Team Leader. In this role you will ensure that the wind tunnel model and associated systems deliver class leading levels of repeatability, operational scope, accuracy, reliability and efficiency (prioritised in that order). Supporting the Aerodynamics WT Engineering Manager, this role will assist with the day to day running of the Wind Tunnel Engineering group and assisting in any relevant cross-group activities. The role will heavily focus on leading the mechanical design activities within the team. Work closely with the Principal Experimental Aerodynamicist and other key stakeholders to ensure the ‘Quality of Experiment’ is class leading. Specifically ensure that from a WT Engineering standpoint the Department is satisfactorily prepared for each wind tunnel session.

* References to “mechanical & electronic” aspects imply everything except the aerodynamic configuration of a wind tunnel model.
All accountabilities may include the management of Engineers and technicians or the direct application of skills as required.
The wind tunnel mechanical & electronic systems are of a satisfactory standard (agreed with Aerodynamics WT Engineering manager) and ready for each wind tunnel test session.
Ensure that the regular work conducted by the Wind Tunnel Engineering group before and after each wind tunnel test session is complete and is done to the highest standards (agreed with Aerodynamics WT Engineering manager).
Provide proactive technical assistance related to the mechanical & electronic systems of the wind tunnel as well as aiding in the use of the gantry systems as required by other groups.
Drive excellence within the mechanical design activities of the team.
Ensure continued development of the teams R&D capabilities.
Provide technical analysis to aid in the improvement of wind tunnel systems and processes.
Where sub-systems are of a supplied design, work with the supplier to ensure systems are operated as specified, are fully understood and documented, and where appropriate support future developments.
* Provide flexible attendance and attitude to work, both in line with the requirements of the role and any specific requirements of the projects;

EXPERIENCE
Your areas of knowledge and expertise
that matter most for this role:
* Degree level qualification in Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar.
* Knowledge of Siemens NX CAD software or similar.
* Basic knowledge of wind tunnel testing methodologies.
* Experience of working within an R&D environment.
* Timely information and reporting (delivering to deadlines set on the job list and keeping on top of communication).

* Ability to work with the team, external suppliers, and colleagues.
