The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Youth Justice Education Officer to join our Youth Justice Service. We are responsible for working with children at risk of offending behaviour, supporting them to achieve positive outcomes by focusing on collaboration and interventions to support the development of pro-social identity
In this role, you will; work alongside the Virtual School as the statutory education adviser to ensure that all young people of statutory school age known to the Youth Justice Service are fully engaged in appropriate, inclusive educational provision that facilitates achievement and a sense of reward for the young person.
Key Responsibilities:
To act as point of liaison for schools and other educational establishments for children in the Youth Justice Service to promote inter-agency working.
To track and monitor the identified cohort of children, working in schools to ensure that education is appropriate and supportive.
To act as a point of contact to other professions across other services as required.
To work alongside the Virtual School to maintain the appropriate records and documentation.
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

2-3 days in the office
Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.
About You
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about pastoral work in education and disadvantage children exceeding their potential, and who possesses the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria:
Holds QTS and has teaching experience.
Has experience of pastoral work in a primary or secondary setting.
Has excellent IT and organisational skills.
Understands trauma and adverse childhood experiences
Can work collaboratively across services.
Desirable Criteria:
Has been part of a pastoral team in a school or college.
Has held responsibility for raising outcomes for disadvantaged children.
Has been a (deputy) DT or DSL in a school or college.
