Management (Community Services & Development)
Full time
Birkenhead Community Church (BCC) is seeking a full-time Senior Pastor with a passion for Christ and a heart for the community. This role involves partnering with the Eldership Team and Leadership Team to provide spiritual, pastoral, and operational leadership that equips and encourages God’s people, and fosters growth in our church community.
ABOUT US
BCC is a modern, independent church with Open Brethren roots, located in the heart of Birkenhead on Auckland’s North Shore. We are a relaxed, family-oriented congregation within the Protestant Evangelical tradition, with a strong focus on serving our local community.
For over 100 years, BCC has been a place where people worship together, with many families spanning multiple generations actively involved in the life of the church. Today, our congregation numbers around 220, with approximately 120-150 attending services each Sunday.
As an elder-led church, we have a diverse preaching team made up of members and occasional guest preachers. We are committed to biblical teaching, fostering spiritual growth, and building meaningful connections within and beyond our congregation. A key part of our ministry is the Rawene Centre, a versatile facility used by both community groups and church ministries. We envision its growing role in outreach and partnerships with other churches and local organisations to better serve our community.
Our vision, “Loving God, Offering Hope,” calls us to glorify God and share His hope with those around us. Guided by six core values—Bible-based, Christ-centered, Spirit-led, Prayer-driven, Mission-conscious, and Community-focused—we are a healthy and established church with a heart for our local community.
THE ROLE
The Senior Pastor will provide spiritual, pastoral, and operational leadership in partnership with the church eldership and leadership team. Key responsibilities include overseeing church ministries, leading Sunday services and the preaching team, providing pastoral care to the congregation, and mentoring staff and ministry leaders to foster spiritual growth. The Senior Pastor will also engage with the local community and other churches to support and serve the wider community.
As a member of the Eldership Team, the Senior Pastor will help to shape and implement the church’s strategic direction and vision. Additionally, the Senior Pastor will work closely with the Leadership Team and staff to manage the operational aspects of the church, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of church activities in alignment with the church’s values and mission.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
We are seeking someone with a strong and mature Christian faith, with a deep passion for nurturing, supporting, and encouraging others. You will bring:
1. A theological foundation that aligns with the church’s values and beliefs.
2. Proven experience in pastoral leadership, including preaching, team leadership, and pastoral care.
3. A collaborative leadership style, empowering others by building strong relationships.
4. A talent for teaching and applying the Bible to everyday life.
5. A self-motivated working approach with the ability to provide oversight and direction to others when needed.
You will be committed to leading with a servant heart, fostering spiritual growth, and engaging with the local community. A deep personal faith and life experience are both essential. A theological qualification is also very beneficial.
Please submit your CV and a covering letter as part of your application. Additionally, include a 2-3 minute video introducing yourself, showcasing your background, key strengths, and what excites you about this role.
Applications close 31 January 2025. First round of interviews will be considered from mid-February 2025.
