Are you a compassionate and experienced nurse looking for a fulfilling role in the hospital and healthcare industry? We are seeking a Lead Nurse for our Targeted Lung Health programme to join our dedicated team and make a difference in the lives of our patients.
In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the delivery of care to patients with lung health issues. You will facilitate the clinical flow of the Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) lung screening participants that have an abnormality reported on their CT scan and support the delivery of the national optimal lung cancer pathway within Devon, both for screening identified patients and those referred via conventional routes.
We are looking for a team player who is passionate about respiratory health and has strong leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a nursing role, preferably in a hospital setting and should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions.
This is a 37.5 hours per week fixed term 12 month or secondment opportunity to join our service in the Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists service (covering both the Lung CNS team and Screening program team), helping to provide a service for the care of and ongoing management of patients with Thoracic malignancy.
Main duties of the job
1. Acts as lead nurse, role model and liaison nurse for all aspects of targeted lung health checks in Torbay.
2. Lead the development of standards of practice taking into consideration evidence based practice, education, training and audit.
3. Leads and develops standards of care and Trust wide strategies for the delivery of the targeted lung health checks and management of patients in the pathway.
4. Identifies and develops policies and protocols to support staff in achieving Trust standards and goals. Working with the targeted lung health lead consultant, leads and develops policies and processes across the Trust in relation to delivery of targeted lung health checks.
5. Represent the Trust through attendance and involvement in local and wider Multi-disciplinary Team meetings /SRM meetings with colleagues from both primary and secondary care.
6. Advocates for patients referred via the Targeted Lung Health programme at the Lung SRM and MDT and ensure further management and referrals are made and communicated with patients and GPs.
7. Participate in Local, Regional and National meetings regarding Targeted Lung health.
About us
This role is crucial to the program as the Lead Nurse will contribute in preparing the SRM by documenting past medical history or scans are well documented and where applicable, contact patients for further referrals or investigations. You will collaborate with the Respiratory Team, Lead Clinician, and Radiologists to create efficient pathways for patients, reducing the workload on secondary and primary care teams.

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse Adult
* Current registration with NMC
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Proven experience at Band 5
* BSc Hons Healthcare/nursing or willingness to undertake
* Relevant Nursing experience, and Audit or research experience
* Post Registration qualification/training supplementary qualifications to Degree level
* Teaching or mentorship qualification
* Previous Respiratory Nursing experience
* Qualification in advanced communication skills
