We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, dynamic midwife to join our labour ward team at Queen Charlottes and Chelsea Hospital as a Band 7 Labour Ward Co-ordinator.
The successful candidate will act as a clinical lead in the day-to-day activity on our busy labour ward. They will coordinate patient flow, ensure the efficient running of the service, whilst utilising exceptional interpersonal skills to support junior staff and work collaboratively with all members of the wider multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder needs to be clinically excellent and able to positively lead and support midwives to work as autonomous practitioners, placing women/birthing people and their families at the centre of personalised care planning. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of the organisation's objectives, by working to improve clinical outcomes, increase productivity, efficiency and quality of patient care.
The postholder will be guided to identify their own learning and development needs, utilising the new labour ward co-ordinators' Education and Development Framework.

Main duties of the job
* Responsible for the day to day co-ordination of Labour Ward, overseeing the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care focused on improving outcomes and experiences for parents, families and carers.
* Ensure safe and effective clinical practice in ensuring own knowledge, skills and competencies are current and act as clinical expert to disseminate specialist skills and knowledge to others.
* Manage midwifery and support staff within the clinical area to maintain smooth running of the service.
* Enhance women/birthing people's experience of care and ensure that their needs are placed at the centre of care delivery.
* Contribute to the delivery of the organisations objectives by working to improve clinical outcomes, increase productivity, efficiency and quality in care delivery.
* The post-holder is an autonomous practitioner in normal pregnancy, birth and the post-natal period and in the care of neonates and is able to detect abnormal conditions in mother and baby, refer to other qualified health professionals appropriately and undertake emergency measures when required.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
* Degree level or equivalent experience as a registered midwife
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Mentorship/Practice Assessor qualification

* Evidence of other professional managerial qualifications
EXPERIENCE
Essential
* Minimum of 3 years as a Band 6 midwife
* Recent experience in an intrapartum setting
* Knowledge and experience of risk management
