Oasis Academy Nunsthorpe is looking for a Teaching Assistant to join our team.
Hours: 33.5 hours per week Monday - Friday term time only
The successful candidate will work under the instruction/guidance of a teacher, to provide specific work/care/support programmes. This role aims to enable access to learning for pupils and assist the teacher in managing pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assisting with display work and creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly, and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans.
2. Assisting with the planning of learning activities and supporting pupils to achieve learning goals.
3. Monitoring the response of pupils to learning activities and recording achievements/progress as directed.
4. Determining the need for, and preparing and maintaining general and specialist equipment and resources, and assisting pupils in their use.
5. Providing detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils' achievements, progress, problems, etc.
6. Promoting good pupil behaviour, dealing with incidents in line with Academy Policy, and encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
7. Undertaking routine marking of pupils' work.
8. Establishing constructive relationships with parents/carers.
9. Administering routine tests and invigilating exams, and accurately recording achievement and progress.
Support for the Pupils
1. Encouraging pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities.
2. Promoting independence and employing strategies to recognise and reward achievement.
3. Supervising and providing particular support for pupils, including those with SEN, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
4. Assisting with the development and implementation of individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care Programmes.
5. Establishing constructive relationships with pupils and interacting with them according to individual needs.
6. Promoting the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
7. Encouraging pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
8. Setting challenging and demanding expectations and promoting self-esteem and independence.
9. Providing feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievements under the guidance of the teacher.
Support for the Curriculum
1. Undertaking structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, advising activities according to pupil responses.
2. Undertaking programmes linked to learning strategies e.g. literacy, numeracy, KS3, foundation, etc., and providing feedback to the teacher.
3. Supporting the use of ICT in learning activities and developing pupils' competence and independence in its use.
4. Preparing, maintaining, and using equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assessing pupils in their use.
General Tasks
1. Being aware of and complying with policies and procedures relating to Child Protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
2. Contributing to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
3. Attending and participating in relevant meetings as required.
4. Assisting in meeting the physical care needs of students as required.
5. Providing clerical/admin support e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, etc.
