Cambridge International School (CIS) in Bratislava, Slovakia, is seeking to appoint a committed and skilled Head of Science. In addition to finding an outstanding teacher and subject expert, we are seeking to appoint an individual who is excited by the opportunity to build on the department’s success and has a clear vision for how this will continue during the coming years. Our Science department currently consists of 4 Teachers of Science and a full-time Laboratory Technician. This role is for the 2025/26 academic year with the start date to begin on 20th August 2025.
Reporting to: Head of Secondary
Purpose of the role
We are currently looking for a qualified and experienced teacher who will also contribute to the strategic development of the School to join our Secondary School team. The Head of Secondary Science will have the overall responsibility for the professional leadership and management of the department in order to ensure high standards of teaching and learning are delivered, resources are used efficiently and effectively, and the curriculum is managed and developed in accordance with school policy.
Main responsibilities
• Management of subject curriculum
• Management of the team
• Coordination of work within relevant subjects
• Subject specific assessment
• Resourcing of the relevant subject area
The ability and experience to teach general science up to IGCSE and Biology or/and Chemistry at A-level is essential.
DESIRED CANDIDATE
UK or similarly qualified graduate in at least one of the Science subjects or a closely related discipline with a recognised teaching qualification in Biology, Chemistry or Physics and experience in the teaching of this subject to A-level and IGCSE. Applicants from outside the EU must hold a Master's degree to be eligible for employment in Slovakia. Please see the attached letter and appendix for further eligibility details.

Initial contracts will be for a two-year fixed term, one year by agreement, with the possibility of future renewal by mutual agreement. As with most quality schools, we have a three month probationary period, details of which are clearly explained in employment contracts.
