Deputy Principal Secondary (Special School)
Salary range: CI $77,088- CI $101,160 per annum
The Deputy Principal Secondary (Special School) will assist the principal in establishing the vision and leadership of the school (secondary) enabling students and staff to achieve effective learning through ensuring outstanding educational provision. They will also be responsible for the well-being and safety of students and staff and to operationalize the Special Needs and Disability (SEND) policy and coordination of provision.
The Deputy Principal (Secondary) Special School, working with others, assists with evaluating the school’s performance to identify priorities for continuous improvement and the raising of standards, for developing policies and practices and for ensuring resources is effectively and efficiently used to achieve the aims and objectives of the school. In collaboration with the Principal, the Deputy plays a key role in determining the strategic development of the SEN/D policy and provision for the Lighthouse School in line with national policy and guidance on SEN/D.
The Deputy Principal (Secondary) Special School must also involve the wider community in the life of the school, by developing and maintaining effective networks with, for example, other schools, the Department of Education Services, the Schools’ Inspectorate, higher education institutions, employers and other individuals and agencies. All Deputies have assigned whole-school aspects of responsibility.
*Required qualifications, experience & special skills include the following:
* A bachelor’s degree and professional teaching qualification from a recognised institution/ authority
* Five (5) to seven (7) years successful teaching experience in a minimum of two schools; at least three (3) years of which must have been middle or senior leadership position or working within an SEN context at management level
* Specialist qualification in some aspect of special educational needs
* Strong skills in teaching and learning processes for children with special educational needs, with the ability to exemplify and identify good practice in teaching and learning both at school and classroom level
* Knowledge and experience in other areas impacting the position such as community liaison, staff training and ICT integration are highly desirable and would be an advantage
* Knowledge and experience of school self-evaluation and strategic planning to inform school improvement are essential
* Excellent communication skills and relationship management skills, with the ability to work and communicate effectively with students, parents, school personnel and a wide range of stakeholders.
* Knowledge and experience of curriculum development for students with a wide range of SEN, external examinations, data analysis and management are essential
* ICT literacy, with an understanding of the current state of ICT technology in our society and its potential applications for teaching, learning and management, with a keen interest in future developments
The remuneration package for the successful candidate is offered without deductions. The Cayman Islands Government provides an additional 12% pension contribution and 100% health insurance coverage for the employee and their dependents.
