Teacher of Physical Education
September 2025
Full-time, Permanent. Required for September 2025.
The Governors of this popular Grammar School wish to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of Physical Education from September 2025, owing to the re-location of the current post-holder. This is a permanent post. The ability to teach GCSE PE and BTEC Sport and Exercise Science is essential and A Level would be preferred. A strong degree in Physical Education or a closely related discipline is required.
The PE department at St Anselm’s College is an exciting place to work, and we are looking for a dedicated individual to teach with passion and determination to further promote a love of sport amongst the student body, driving engagement with the subject both inside and outside the classroom.
All students study PE from Years 7 – 11, and Games from Year 7-13. In Year 10 they can then choose PE as an option at GCSE level, studying the two-year full course OCR specification. Physical Education is a popular subject, currently running 3 classes. In Sixth Form students can continue their studies at A-Level or BTEC Sport and Exercise Science. The A-Level course follows the OCR specification where they have twelve 50-minute lessons per fortnight. The BTEC course follows the Pearson National Diploma specification, where students have 24 50-minute lessons per fortnight receiving 2 A-Level equivalent UCAS points.
Students achieve highly in their curricular and extracurricular endeavours. There are numerous clubs and teams offered across a range of sports and activities, and through our strong external links there is a host of performance and elite level opportunities to compliment this. The department has strong fixture calendars for our main competitive sports, including a traditional Saturday sports programme.
St Anselm’s College is a very successful selective boys’ Grammar School. There are 1000 students on roll and results are good. In 2024, PE achieved very good GCSE results with 93% of students receiving Grades 9-5, and 100% achieving Grade 4 or better, contributing an SPI of 1.14. At A-Level, 71% of grades were A*-C and in BTEC Sport and Exercise Science 100% of students achieved grades double distinction*- double merit.
