Learning Support Assistant
We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a wonderful school in Whitehaven. If you have a background in SEND, education, care, or social work, and are passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs and disabilities, we want to hear from you.
Working with a diverse range of pupils with complex SEND and EHCPs, you will help create an inclusive and positive learning environment. Your role will be integral to helping these children thrive, both academically and socially.
The Role As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work directly with pupils who have a variety of learning needs, including communication difficulties and autism. You will support in the classroom, assist with tailored educational activities, and provide one-on-one help where required. Some pupils may require personal care, depending on their individual needs.
You will be supporting pupils with a range of communication tools, including PECS and AAC systems, enabling them to express themselves and engage fully with their learning. This is an ideal opportunity for those looking to develop their skills in supporting children with complex needs, while making a meaningful impact on their lives.
The Ideal Person We are looking for someone who is patient, nurturing, and has a genuine desire to help children succeed. You will ideally have a background in education, care, or social work and experience working with adults or young people with SEND. A good understanding of autism and communication needs is important, and experience with PECS or AAC would be an advantage.
In addition to the specific experience, we are looking for someone who has:

Hours The role is available for both full-time and part-time applications. Working hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, during term time.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
