The Role We are currently recruiting for the position of Junior Field Service Technician (High Voltage System). In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers to support the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of high-voltage (HV) Partial Discharge (PD) monitoring systems. You’ll have the chance to learn on the job, investigate PD activity, interpret test results, and help our clients keep their HV assets running safely and efficiently. Key Areas of Responsibility Site Work Install & Commission Monitoring Systems: Assist in setting up IPEC’s PD monitoring equipment at customer substations, learning best practices from senior engineers. Partial Discharge Investigations: Use specialist tools and techniques to spot and pinpoint PD sources in high-voltage assets. Maintenance & Repairs: Join our team in carrying out routine maintenance and repairs, ensuring that installed monitors continue to perform well under service-level agreements. Client-Facing Service & Support Data Analysis & Reporting: Work on reviewing test data and help compile clear, concise technical reports. Customer Communication: Liaise with clients on test procedures, scheduling, and field-related questions. Ongoing Tech Development: Collaborate with the R&D team on testing new technologies and broadening your understanding of PD theory. Working Relationships Reporting: You’ll report directly to the Services Manager and be part of the Services & Support Team. Internal Collaboration: Expect to team up regularly with colleagues in Sales, Marketing, and R&D. External Engagement: Build rapport with clients around the world, including major Distribution Network Operators and large industrial organisations. The Right Person Requirements The successful candidate will be willing to travel extensively overseas, engage directly with clients and offer proactive support. Skills, Knowledge & Experience Qualifications: Working towards or recently completed an apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or degree-level studies in Electrical Engineering (or a related field). Technical Aptitude: Keen problem-solver with a basic understanding of electrical systems, ready to learn PD theory and diagnostic methods. Self-Management: Able to manage your own tasks under supervision, and comfortable working away from home when required. Reliability & Flexibility: Dependable, methodical approach, willing to adapt to varying schedules. Communication Skills: Competent in both written and spoken communication; able to translate technical findings into clear reports. Customer Focus: Genuine interest in building positive client relationships and delivering great service. Industry Passion: Eager to develop a career in the Power Industry, with a special focus on substation technology and PD impacts. Travel & Driving: Comfortable travelling (over 50% of the time) within the UK and internationally; must hold a full clean UK driving licence. Right to work in the UK. Why Join Us?
