Scrumconnect Consulting is seeking a Lead Engineer to drive technical excellence, mentor teams, and deliver scalable and secure digital transformation projects for government and enterprise clients. This role requires hands-on expertise in modern software engineering, cloud platforms, and Agile development.
You will be responsible for technical leadership, solution architecture, and ensuring high-quality software delivery while collaborating closely with product owners, architects, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Software Engineering Leadership & Solution Architecture
Lead the design, development, and deployment of high-quality software solutions.
Define and enforce coding standards, best practices, and technical roadmaps.
Ensure architecture decisions align with scalability, security, and performance goals.
Provide hands-on expertise in backend development (.NET Core, Java, Python, Node.js, etc.).
Conduct technical reviews, provide mentorship, and guide teams in adopting best practices.
Work in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) environments, contributing to sprint planning and technical discussions.
Promote software craftsmanship through test-driven development (TDD), automated testing, and clean coding principles.
Optimize software development workflows to ensure high velocity and quality delivery.
3. Cloud & DevOps Best Practices (Desirable but Not Mandatory)
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native development.
Understanding of Microservices, APIs, and distributed system architectures.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Docker (DevOps experience is a plus but not a strict requirement).
Knowledge of security, authentication (OAuth, OpenID), and compliance (ISO 27001, GDPR, Cyber Essentials).

Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4+ years in a lead role.
Strong backend development expertise in .NET Core, Java, Python, or Node.js.
Experience designing scalable, high-performance, and secure software solutions.
Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and system integration.
Ability to mentor and guide engineering teams.
Experience working on government or highly regulated sector projects is a plus.
Nice to Have
Hands-on experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud platforms.
Previous experience in public sector digital transformation (MoJ, HMCTS, DWP, Home Office, etc.).
Experience with frontend frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js) and full-stack development.
Exposure to AI-driven solutions, automation, and analytics.
