Plans, organizes and implements all fitness and recreation activities including seasonal holiday functions and special events. Develops and assists members with aerobic and strength training programs. Assists in the safe instruction of exercise equipment.
Essential Duties:
* Flexible hours to include AM, PM, weekends and holidays.
* Maintain personal integrity, client confidentiality and professional standards for best practice.
* Responsible for the programming of all activities throughout the fitness department, to include pool, spa and tennis.
* Assist with interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
* Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
* Attends weekly staff meetings.
* Responsible for managing the overall maintenance and cleanliness of all facets within this department, to include pool and tennis.
* Proper documentation of all incidents.
* Ensures the staff is fully knowledgeable on the use and benefits of fitness classes, personal training, equipment and activities.
* Monitors guest feedback and follows up on requests and comments.
* Manages point of sale system, on-line reservation system and other technology to effectively market and communicate to the membership.
* Regular and reliable attendance.
* Maintains flexibility to take on new and different tasks as directed by the Director of Health + Wellness.
* Leads by example to create memorable moments by personalizing the client experience and actively promoting a fun and social atmosphere.
* Assist with annual budget, revenue goals and expenses for the related amenities in fitness department.
* Assist in providing social media and website content to Membership Director to promote activities and the social environment of the Club and its amenities.
* Responsible for ensuring overall cleanliness of all areas (i.e., Fitness Studio, Movement Room, Fitness Desk, Pools).
* Responsible for the management of all outside contractors that participate in fitness.
* Monitors business volume forecast and plans accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs and other expenses.
* Responsible for implementing and maintaining excellent service to achieve guest satisfaction.
* Communicates any changes or new policies and procedures to the department.
* Guides members through initial and progressive training in the areas of flexibility, aerobic conditioning and strength training.
* Instructs fitness and group classes each week.
* Inspects exercise equipment and areas for cleanliness and safety. Performs light custodial duties such as wipes down equipment, monitors cleanliness in pool area, spa, fitness center, and locker-rooms.
* Classes may be either indoor, controlled exercise settings, or indoor/outdoor aquatic settings.
* Monitors classes in progress, providing constructive assistance.
* Enforces all rules and regulations in a polite and professional manner.
* Represents the community association’s fitness center at meetings, seminars, and events with the Director of Health + Wellness, or in the absence of the Director of Health + Wellness.
* Assists the Director of Health + Wellness with special events, tournaments, recognition programs, and any outdoor sports related activities.
Education/Experience:
Associate’s degree (AA) in Physical Education or related field; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 1-2 years in management.
Physical Demands:
Frequently uses hands; reaches with hands and arms; talks, hears, stands and walks, climbs or balances; stoops, and kneels. Occasionally sits, crouches, or crawls; tastes or smells. Occasionally lifts up to 45 pounds.
Environment/Noise:
Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions. Noise level is moderate.
Certificates/Licenses:
Nationally recognized certification such as ACE, NASM, ACSM for group instruction and/or personal training. AED, CPR and First Aid.
Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Preferences:
* Ability to read and speak English may be required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g. the associates may be required to communicate with English speaking customers or co-workers, the manuals for the equipment the associates may use are in English).
* Experience and exposure with wide variety of exercise equipment, instructional techniques, injury prevention, fitness/wellness counseling, and developing/interpreting personalized fitness/wellness regimens.
