Lawnswood School is a mixed, non-denominational community secondary school and sixth form for pupils aged 11-18. It is located in West Park, Leeds, West Yorkshire.
The school, founded in its current form in 1972, has capacity for up to about 1,500 pupils. Its predecessor schools were the Leeds Modern School, a boys' grammar school, and Lawnswood High School for Girls.
Headteacher: Jo Bell
Values and vision: Lawnswood School aims to create an inspirational community of learning, where its ambitions for academic attainment with an emphasis on students' moral, social, personal, and spiritual needs are combined.
The school wants its students to become caring, committed, self-aware and confident members of society. It aims to ensure all students are treated as individuals and are able to excel.
Lawnswood aims to ensure its students are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to undertake the next stage of their career, and hopes to foster leadership and engagement to encourage pupils to make a positive contribution to their school and community.
Ofsted: “The ambition and total commitment of the headteacher has raised the expectations of students and staff. This has resulted in significant improvements in the quality of teaching so that the school and inspectors judge more than three-quarters of teaching is now good or better.”
“Students’ achievement is now good overall, especially in the sixth form, where students make strong progress from relatively low starting points and achieve above the national average. All aspects of provision in the sixth form are at least good and some are outstanding.”
