The Christie PET-CT Academy is a leading centre of excellence for educating the full spectrum of professionals operating across PET-CT diagnostic services. Part of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, the PET-CT Academy operates in partnership with Alliance Medical as part of the National Contract 1 (NC1) Molecular Imaging Collaborative Network (MICN), to provide a skilled workforce to meet ever-increasing patient needs across England. We are seeking an experienced Education Developer with a genuine interest in learning theory and an eagerness to explore new technologies and methodologies in education. Technical proficiency is a plus, but more importantly, we value creativity and adaptability in learning design.
The successful candidate will work closely with subject matter experts and our learning experience designer to storyboard and structure content that delivers an exceptional learning experience. Your focus will be on educational design and theory, ensuring that our programmes meet the highest standards of instructional integrity.
You will support the team in the development of high quality, evidence-based online courses through the application of robust pedagogical principles and strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop storyboards and course outlines.
• Research and integrate cutting-edge educational theory and methods into course content.
• Ensure that course content aligns with learning objectives and enhances learner outcomes maximizing knowledge retention through innovative instructional strategies.
• Liaise with internal teams to manage course development timelines.
• Provide expert advice on educational best practices and learning strategies.
• Support the review and continuous improvement of our educational offerings.
• Manage and oversee the daily operation of the Academy Education team

The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.

Learning and module development
• Provide pedagogic support regarding the design and construction of courses
• Work with subject matter experts to deliver education briefs and storyboards for the development of courses
• Provide support to subject matter experts in the research of appropriate content and resources to embed within courses
• Support in liaising with subject matter experts to ensure content aligns with national strategies and in the review of educational content
• Collaborate closely with the design team to create content that allows learners to test and apply their understanding, provide appropriate feedback and encourage critical thinking skills and self-directed learning
• Translate national, regional and local requirements and design learning experiences that utilise a range of e-learning approaches
• Work with colleagues to determine the most effective online course design ensuring high quality and pedagogically sound approaches to course design are followed
• Work with Patient User Representative either face to face or electronically in an empathetic, sensitive manner at various stages of course development
• Contribute to the development and delivery of face-to-face facilitated learning events with key stakeholders, taking advantage of latest pedagogical approaches, and lead on the development of supporting learning materials
• Liaise with the programme marketing coordinator regarding key joint tasks in learning development and promotion
• Support the Learning Experience Designer in filming projects
• Spot inefficiencies, then develop and instigate new ways of working to ensure learning development workflows are as streamlined as possible
• Lead the change process in the review and refresh of existent courses; including checking clinical accuracy with internal SMEs and external stakeholders, evaluate user experience and functionality of the platform and lead changes with the design team and implement latest educational pedagogy
• Lead the review process of existing courses with the Programme Manager and the wider PET-CT Academy team
• Work with the Programme Manager to extract both quantitative and qualitative data and analyse the impact of the education
• Contribute to the evaluation of existing courses to ensure that they are current, accurate and employ latest interactive and engaging learner techniques
• Ensure that learning activities and resources are inclusive, accessible and support equality and diversity
Educational development
• Work closely with other team members to ensure courses are designed according to the agreed specifications and quality standards
• Produce comprehensive education briefs to enable the developers to build courses to various stages of completion
• Keep abreast of developments and research in learning design and educational technologies generally and cascade on knowledge to other team members
• Hands on support to colleagues who are experimenting with innovative teaching, learning and assessment methods
Quality and governance
• Maintain high quality assurance standards in learning materials and delivery, ensuring copyright, licensing and accessibility standards are maintained
• Report progress on behalf of the development workstream to the Programme Manager and the wider stakeholders using established reporting methods
• Assist with the accreditation process for learning materials developed
Management and leadership
• Line management of Learning Experience Designer, providing support and opportunities for development where appropriate
• Represent the PET-CT Academy and The Christie Institute for Cancer Education in a professional and positive manner
• Contribute to the development of the PET-CT Academy team, developing and sharing knowledge, experience, skills and best practice
• Follow prescribed PET-CT Academy policies and procedures in all relevant aspects of management
• Work in partnership with other members of The Christie Institute for Cancer Education and external partners, to support the overall vision and objectives of the programme
• Ensure that projects are delivered within the available resources and agreed timescales, providing regular reports and raising significant problems/issues in a timely manner
• Plan the effective use of finances with Programme Manager to support all projects efficiently

• Manage and prioritise own portfolio of work and project-based responsibilities to meet required deadlines and objectives
• Take every reasonable opportunity to maintain and improve self-development including professional knowledge and competence
• Participate in personal objective setting and review, including the creation of a personal development plan
• Further personal development and training will be supported where it is consistent with the jointly agreed outcomes and objectives of personal development plans and/ or the changing strategic and operational requirements of the project

• Ability to work under pressure, within tight time frames and with minimal supervision against defined project plans, contributing to the development of plans.
• Participate at relevant meetings to update on the progress of the project or on its deliverables as required
