Purpose of Role:
1. To act as liaison between Operations and Vendors for quality issues identified during the inspection of incoming goods or the assembly process.
2. Identify root cause failure for non-conformances and work cross functionally with other Departments and/or Vendors to identify, implement and evaluate effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions introduced.
3. Provide day to day support to all departments for supplier quality issues, to set inspection priorities and drive these through to resolution, liaise with the Operational Excellence Manager as required.
4. Responsible for Auditing External Suppliers, to proactively manage quality standards.
5. Responsible for carrying out internal and external quality departmental, product and process audits against internal procedures and external approval standards (i.e. ISO9001, ATEX, PED).
Essential Functions/Duties:
1. Comply with all Company Policies and Procedures, including Health, Safety and Environmental.
2. Provide hands-on day-to-day support to all Departments, assisting a Company culture change to move away from ‘inspecting in’ to a process driven, right first time, quality receipt from Supplier.
3. Ownership to set and drive the day-to-day priorities within QA Inspection function to ensure customer expectations are met (internal and external) from information provided from daily production meetings, project related work or management requirements. KPIs and Corrective ACTION tracking/management.
4. Ownership to review and drive supplier quality via the reject process and Supplier Scorecards. Liaising with suppliers and undertaking supplier Audits where necessary – International travel may be a requirement.
5. Liaise with all internal Departments, customers and suppliers, resolving supplier quality issues in an effective and timely manner to improve Company performance and customer service.
6. Responsible for actively participating in internal process and external vendor audits.
7. Introduce Quality Planning (APQP), developing documentation and preventative measures, for example, PFMEA/Poke Yoke and specify appropriate QA/inspection equipment to optimise process and improve quality product throughput.
8. Develop suitable data acquisition and analysis to track Internal/External Supplier quality trends and drive continuous improvement activity aimed at stabilising processes, reducing non-conforming product and ensuring the prevention of any reoccurrence.
9. Lead effective 5Y/8D root cause analysis and drive timely and sustainable corrective actions raised from internal/external (including customer) non-conformances.
10. Use consistent structured methodology such as Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) process to implement problem solving projects and co-ordinate these activities involving Company team employees and vendors, etc.
11. Participate as necessary in QA training and development of individuals and teams in order to enhance Supplier internal/external performance and operational effectiveness.
12. Accurately interpret complex engineering drawings and geometric tolerances.
13. Respond to change productively and perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
1. Apprentice trained or machining/technical, tool making, foundry experience.
2. Indepth working knowledge and proven track record in operating quality management systems, such as ISO9001:2015 (ATEX and PED an advantage).
3. Trained Internal Quality Auditor to ISO 9001:2015 – Lead Auditor or TS 16949/AS9100 desirable.
4. Proven practical understanding of Voice of Customer, Lean, and Total Quality Management principles (both in developing strategy and hands-on implementation). Lean/Continuous Improvement skills, 5S, VSM SMED, Six Sigma an advantage.
5. Proven, in-depth inspection, engineering and quality experience within a precision electro/mechanical manufacturing environment with low to medium volume with skills in process improvement techniques and ISO quality systems.
6. Experience or background in production of castings, machined components, pressurized vessels, electro-mechanical, electronics, pressurised valves and safety related products an advantage.
7. Knowledge and experience of regulatory requirements within the pressure vessel/hazardous area industry a distinct benefit (PED/ATEX/Marine Classification, etc).
8. Experience in utilizing mechanical inspection and equipment, including CMM, Surface finish and internal/external micrometres, etc.
9. Excellent interaction and communication skills, with the ability to address all levels of the business to ‘get things done’.
10. Experience of working within an ISO 14001:2015 environment.
11. Ability to manage multiple projects.
Qualifications:
Educated to ONC/HNC/degree level or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
