Happy Nest Nanny and Maternity Agency is seeking a professional and compassionate Nanny to provide dedicated care for a bright and observant one-year-old little boy with medical complexities. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a loving family, supporting the little boys development whilst ensuring his medical and emotional needs are met in a safe and engaging environment.
About the Little Boy:
This little boy was born prematurely and has spent his first year of life in the hospital. He has severe chronic lung disease and requires 24-hour supplemental oxygen, spending most of the day on nasal cannula and the rest (mostly night time) on a portable BiPAP ventilator. He is fed continuously through a nasojejunal tube and requires medications via a nasogastric tube. Due to his medical needs, he requires constant supervision and cannot be left alone for any amount of time. The little boy will always be attached to a portable stats monitor to make sure he is safe.
Despite his medical challenges, he is a happy little boy who loves playtime, cognitive stimulation, and interacting with a range of smiley, caring professionals. His favourite activities include, interacting with story books, nursery rhymes, and finding objects to eat.
About the Family:
The little boys parents are a dedicated and loving couple in their thirties who have recently settled into their home in Caterham after relocating to a property that can better accommodate the little boys needs. They share this space with their friendly rescue cat. The mother is the little boys full-time carer and looks forward to working alongside the successful candidate in the little boys care. The father works full-time, spending at least three days a week up in London. The family is looking for a nanny to support them with the daily care of their little boy, providing reliable support and help to create a nurturing environment where their little boy can flourish.
Nanny Responsibilities:
- Organise and facilitate age appropriate developmental activities and play
- Support the little boys engagement with OT, SALT, and physiotherapy plans under parental guidance
- Ensure a safe and clean environment by tidying up and disinfecting areas and resources the little boy comes into contact with
- Work alongside a parent trained in the little boys medical needs, with the potential to work independently as confidence grows
- Follow parental guidance and instructions regarding the little boys care and routine
- Accompany the family to medical appointments and provide support if the little boy is hospitalised
- Maintain excellent hygiene standards. Including handwashing,, and wearing a face mask if requested by the family. It's very important to remain mindful of the little boys vulnerability to illnesses
- Be prepared for emergency situations, including calling an ambulance if necessary
- Provide emotional and practical support to the parents and ensure a positive and structured environment for the little boy
Housekeeping Responsibilities:
- Dusting and Hoovering common areas
- Running laundry loads and assisting with household organisation
- Cleaning and maintaining hygiene in areas the little boy frequents
- Running small local errands for the family
- Cleaning bathrooms (preferred but not essential)
Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will be a warm, reliable, and proactive individual with a strong background in childcare. Experience with children who have medical needs is preferred, but isn't essential. Training will be provided for the right candidate.
- Previous experience working with children with complex medical needs OR willingness to learn quickly
- Ability to remain calm and collected in high-stress situations
- Confidence in following medical instructions and adapting to a structured care plan
- Confidence in asking questions when unsure how to approach a situations and owning up to gaps in own knowledge
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team, taking direction from parents but also offering own advice and suggestions (especially around play activities) - Has training in, or willing to be trained in, Basic Life Support, i.e., CPR.
- Commitment to maintaining high hygiene standards and safeguarding the little boys health
- Willingness to accompany the little boy and his parents to appointments and provide hospital support when needed
- Awareness of the need to stay away from work when feeling unwell due to the little boys medical vulnerability
