An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Elective Treatment Centre for Surgery at the Manchester Royal Infirmary.
ETC Surgery is a 24 bedded unit consisting of elective case loads across specialties which includes major head and neck surgery, flap reconstruction and complex airway management. Candidates will have the opportunity to develop their skills in areas such as colorectal, hepatobiliary, and in particular tracheostomy and laryngectomy care and emergency tracheostomy/ laryngectomy management.
As well as the 24 beds, we have 3 trolley spaces for our brand new same day emergency service for ENT and urology patients.
You will be supported by our friendly team and we will push you to achieve your potential. Once you are fully airway trained you will be able to support our patients with altered airways, and provide discharge planning and training. You will have the opportunity to learn many new skills, which will give you confidence in many aspects of general and head and neck surgeries.
Main duties of the job
ETC Surgery at the Manchester Royal Infirmary of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a suitably experienced surgical nurse who is passionate about patient safety and the delivery of exceptional quality care to patients with head and neck related concerns, from ENT to Maxillo-facial, as we receive patients post operatively following elective surgery. We strive to provide an outstanding service to all our patients. You will be an aspiring leader with the ability to adopt a highly accessible and visible approach for patients, relatives and colleagues. You will assist the Ward Manager with the operational management for the team working on the Ward. You will have the ability to develop a culture of continuous improvement with a particular emphasis on the patient journey and clinical outcomes. The post holder will assess, plan, evaluate and deliver all relevant aspects of patient care in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner. Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to the clinical governance process. Act as a mentor/preceptor to junior staff, with specific responsibility for pre-registration students. The post holder will take delegated responsibility for the management of the clinical team and the maintenance of high standards of quality patient care on a shift basis.
