Job overview
Please note that applicants must be able to commit to working a minimum of 22.5 hours per week (3 days/0.6 wte) within the Ealing Speech and Language Therapy team. Furthermore, you may be required to work in different parts of the service to support Service Objectives.
Main duties of the job
1. To assess, diagnose and manage a caseload of clients with speech, language and communication difficulties across settings including clinics, homes and nurseries.
2. Providing assessment and intervention to children aged 0-18 with a Sensorineural Hearing Loss. Children are seen in their homes and in community clinics. This post will require proficient clinical skills but also an ability to work closely with a range of other professionals including Specialist Advisory Teachers/ Teacher of the Deaf, Audiologists, Doctors/Hospital Teams and Special Educational Needs Coordinators.
3. To assess clients referred to the speech and language therapy service and to develop and implement specialist SLT treatment packages.
4. To work together with health and education staff in integrating therapy targets into all learning goals for children in other settings.
5. To manage and prioritise a caseload independently with access to support and supervision as necessary.
6. To assist team leaders in service development.
7. To be based at Carmelita House.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To manage a complex and highly specialist caseload independently demonstrating evidence of sound clinical judgement and outcome measurement with access to support and supervision as necessary.
2. To demonstrate highly specialist knowledge in clinical specialism underpinned by current evidence based practice.
3. To reflect on practice with peers and identify strengths and needs.
4. To demonstrate evidence of highly specialist clinical judgement, evidence based practice and outcome measures.
5. To act as a lead speech & language therapist in the appropriate specialism.
6. To provide support and supervision for junior team members as directed by Team Leader.
7. To provide specialist second opinions, advice and training to less experienced/ junior colleagues and/or other professionals in the field.
8. To write appropriate reports and case notes, reflecting specialist knowledge.
9. To communicate verbally and in writing with parent/ carer/ client assessment findings, diagnosis and therapy intervention plan reflecting specialist knowledge.
10. To negotiate with parents/clients/other professionals around case management.
Person specification
Education/ Qualifications
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent
* Registration with Health Professions Council as a speech and language therapist
* Registered member of RCSLT
* Evidence of continuing professional development and advanced training in specialist area
* Member of national organisation / CEN related to Mainstream schools
Knowledge & Experience
* Significant experience of working with children/young people with complex communication needs and DHH.
* Highly Specialist knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group
* Experience of carrying out assessment and differential diagnosis for children with complex speech, language and communication difficulties.
* Highly specialist knowledge of a range of appropriate educational and therapeutic interventions.
* Postgraduate experience of developing and delivering training.
