With post-qualification experience, you are competent under the Food Law Code of Practice for inspecting high-risk food businesses and enforcing the Health & Safety at Work Act regulations. A relevant qualification as listed in the Food Law Code of Practice is essential. You are capable of providing a copy of your competency framework and appropriate CPD on request. Proficiency in IT systems, including MS Office and case management systems, is required, as well as a full driving license, own vehicle, and business insurance. Registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner is mandatory. What the Job Involves As a Public Protection Officer, you will deliver the food hygiene and standards inspection programme, investigate complaints related to food, health, and safety, and assist with various functions like health and safety at work, accident investigations, and infectious disease control. Your role includes providing input on licensing, planning applications, and event consultations, carrying out enforcement in line with Council policy, addressing complaints, serving notices, and attending court and hearings to lead prosecutions. You will manage a multidisciplinary enforcement caseload, which may involve unsociable hours for monitoring visits. The position entails working as a hybrid of home and Town Hall-based in Romford, with site visits when required, ensuring high-quality, efficient service delivery and continuous service improvement. The role pays £40/hr.
