Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly team in the ophthalmology outpatients department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as a Band 2 Trainee Ophthalmic Assistant. Following the successful completion of a range of Ophthalmic competencies there will be progression to a Band 3 Ophthalmic Assistant post. We are looking for a caring and motivated individual who has a genuine interest in Ophthalmology. The successful candidate must have good communication skills and be able to work well as part of a friendly team in a busy and dynamic environment. In return, the post offers the opportunity for further development and training within Ophthalmology. This is a 9 month fixed term role for 19 hours a week to cover maternity leave. Some weekend and evening working will be required. Main duties of the job The position will involve undertaking a variety of skills such as carrying out visual acuities, visual field testing, ocular coherence tomography, assisting scrub nurses during eye injections and assisting with minor ops. There will be a requirement for accurate input of patient details and diagnostic testing results into a dedicated ophthalmic database.
