Bud Flanagan West is a haematology-oncology transplant unit that deals with patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment and stem cell transplantation. It comprises of 16 inpatient beds and 7-day case chairs. Bud West is a busy unit due to the specialised care that the team provides for patients who are receiving stem cell transplant, high dose chemotherapy and supportive treatment. The Bud West team aims to provide excellent quality of care and best patient experience thus we are looking for an enthusiastic band 3 health care support worker to join our friendly and dedicated team. You will need to be proactive, hardworking, possess excellent communication skills, and be able to provide the highest quality of care for the patients. Candidates will be expected to provide basic nursing care ensuring patients environment are safe, carry out observation checks, perform changing of bed linens, conduct quality checks for equipment, support with meal serving during mealtimes and practice high standard of infection prevention and control. Candidates will also be provided training with venepuncture, cannulation, and ECG taking.
• To carry out in a responsible and efficient way, the nursing care for patients which has been drawn up in conjunction with the co-ordinator of the shift.
• To demonstrate the ability to develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities.
• As an integral member of the nursing team work with team members to ensure the maintenance of an efficient, safe, clean and pleasant environment for all patients.

• To undertake and practice the Care Certificate standards.
• Monitoring and recording patients’ vital signs (including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation) and reporting any abnormal results to registered nursing staff.
• Measuring and recording patients’ height and weight.
• Performing venepuncture and venous blood sampling. After training and assessment of competency.
• Undertakes clinical tasks relevant to the specific clinical area following competency sign off, for example, ECG, urinalysis, MRSA screening swabs, recording of allergies on EPR and other clinical tasks where training/competency sign off deemed appropriate for HCSW that has been ratified through NRRAC.
• Assisting with nutrition where applicable e.g. assisting with menu completion, feeding assistance. Working closely with the ward host/hostess and housekeeper. Understanding the dietary needs of patients and utilise diet charts and fluid balance charts appropriately.
