Main duties of the job
The primary clinical responsibilities of the post holder are:
* To ensure the provision and delivery of a first-class clinical service.
* To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.
* To provide specialist breast surgical services for in-patients, day cases and out-patients, with continuing responsibility for the patients and their care and for the proper functioning of the department.
* To support and continue to develop the Oncoplastic/reconstructive aspects of the breast service.
* To contribute to the Breast MDT.
* To activate particulate and undertake audit.
* To actively remain clinically competent.
* To work to all Trust Policies and procedures.
* To work flexibly.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate will join our innovative breast unit to provide comprehensive breast surgical services in collaboration with Northampton General Hospital. This position, open due to retirement of a valued colleague, focuses on the timely diagnosis and surgical treatment of breast cancer, with particular emphasis on oculoplastic procedures.
In 2023, our unit diagnosed 298 patients and provided treatment to 254 patients. The unit offers state-of-the-art facilities having recently benefited from a newly built waiting lounge and garden area as well as recent investment in refurbishing breast screening facilities within the unit.
The post will suit a candidate who has recently gained their CCT in Breast surgery (and who is on the specialist register).
Person specification
Education, Training & Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with License to Practice (or eligibility to obtain)
* CCT in General Surgery and on GMC’s Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of the interview or have confirmed eligibility for Specialist Registration within 6 months
* FRCS or equivalent
Teaching/Audit/Service Improvement
* Effective participation in clinical audit and/or service improvement projects
* Relevant research articles in peer-reviewed journals
* Demonstrable commitment and ability to teach and train undergraduates, junior doctors and allied healthcare professionals
* Completed “Train the Trainers” course or equivalent
Clinical Experience
* Training and experience in Breast Surgery including Oncoplastic Surgery
* Experience in Cancer Management
* Oncoplastic Fellowship
* Research undertaken in relevant field
* Evidence of working effectively in a Multidisciplinary team
* Ability to motivate staff, to facilitate appropriate changes in clinical practice and to work as part of a team
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enthusiasm, and approachability
* Commitment to continuing professional development and clinical governance

New employees who do not join the update service will be required to pay £49.50 for a new DBS check in 3 years time.
Please note that new starters with KGH are subject to a six month probationary period.
