Summary / Background:
My client currently spends a significant amount per annum on Software and Software implementation/support for both internal use and to power end-client solutions. Effective control and management of this spend via proactive procurement is essential to help deliver savings, add value, and support the wider strategic objectives of my client.
Margin erosion and new market entrants are challenging my client’s position, making it critical to explore innovative ways to drive commercial savings, add value, and balance supply chain continuity with environmental considerations. The Software Sourcing Specialist role is responsible for contributing to the overall Procurement strategy for the Global Software category and supply chain, effectively reducing costs, mitigating risks, and delivering value and innovation through software procurement.
Role Description:
The Software Sourcing Specialist will provide proactive procurement engagement within my client’s global software category, working closely with the Software Strategic Category Lead to reduce costs, mitigate risks, and establish a world-class strategic sourcing strategy.
This role involves engaging with key stakeholders and software suppliers globally from a central group perspective, ensuring alignment with the overarching software category plans. The successful candidate will create and maintain best-in-class global software contracts and commercial agreements with key suppliers and partners.
Responsibilities include negotiating and maintaining global software deals and frameworks, supporting regional and business leads on new software requirements, and providing central support for bids and new business opportunities. The role also involves evolving the software category, exploring new sourcing methods, commercial models, and fostering strong relationships with key strategic software suppliers.
A core component of this role is to constructively challenge existing norms, finding innovative and proactive ways to engage with the software market to deliver dynamic benefits, contracts, and commercial models for my client and its clients.
Key Duties:
1. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the 2024 Global Software Procurement category strategy and plans.
2. Act as a subject matter expert for the business on the software category, including suppliers, licensing models, commercial models, and key terms.
3. Enhance and improve current software procurement processes, engagement models, and explore new commercial models and supply chain routes to market.
4. Support the central group software category plans, objectives, and commercial value initiatives.
5. Take ownership of targeted procurement and sourcing engagements with assigned software suppliers.
6. Build and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders.
7. Support the Software Strategic Category Lead in delivering transformational activities across the Software category.
8. Lead sourcing events for software requirements, utilizing the most appropriate tools and processes.
9. Contribute to the establishment of a group center of excellence for Software procurement.
Key Skills Required:
1. 5+ years of IT/Software procurement experience in a global environment.
2. Strong negotiation skills for global software contracts, frameworks, and terms.
3. Experience in contract drafting.
4. Expertise in Software Category Management & Category Strategies.
5. Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
6. Proficiency with digital tools and IT systems.
7. Strong commercial mindset and numeracy skills.
8. Inquisitive and innovative mindset.
9. Change agent with an appetite to drive change and challenge the status quo.
Qualifications:
1. Degree / MCIPS preferred but not essential.
