Our client is seeking an experienced and results-driven Interim Head of Purchasing to lead and optimise the supply chain operations of their rapidly growing organisation. This role is focused on building a resilient, high-performing supply chain supported by market-leading systems, managing and mentoring a dedicated team, and driving EBITDA growth through strategic sourcing. The ideal candidate will combine strategic vision with hands-on operational expertise to ensure excellence across procurement, supplier management, and the end-to-end supply chain process. A strong negotiator with a proven track record in high-volume transactional roles and experience in driving transformation is essential. Key Responsibilities: Strategic & Operational Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive supply chain strategy aligned with business objectives, focusing on fill rate, EBITDA and “best-in-class” quality. Identify and implement process improvements, leveraging technology and innovation to margin for human error and increase productivity. Develop the capacity both in the team and the supply chain to scale as the team 4x the business over the next 3 years. Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, commercial, marketing, and operations to support business growth initiatives. Drive sustainability and ethical practices across the supply chain, aligning with industry and company goals. Procurement & Supplier Management: Lead procurement activities, including sourcing, negotiating, and managing supplier relationships to optimise cost, quality, and delivery timelines. Oversee the onboarding of new suppliers, conducting thorough assessments to ensure compliance with company standards, ethical practices, and regulatory requirements. Travel overseas to visit suppliers, cementing relationships, validate capacity and audit factories. Use ingenuity and speed to source product rapidly to support sales activity. Continuously monitor and evaluate supplier performance, addressing risks and opportunities to ensure alignment with company expectations. Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key suppliers, fostering collaboration and innovation to support business goals. Negotiate supplier agreements to achieve cost savings, secure critical supply, and improve overall supply chain resilience. Use tenacity to develop and maintain a strong SRM tool, that records MBI’s (Meaning Buying Interactions), and savings pipeline, to drive the right behaviour. Additional Responsibilities Manage inventory levels to ensure high stock availability, reducing waste and mitigating risks associated with supply chain disruptions. Utilise advanced data analytics and ERP tools to enhance visibility and decision-making within the supply chain. Lead, mentor, and develop the supply chain team, promoting a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Providing clear succession for the future. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, including BRCGS, food safety and packaging tax legislation. Oversee the onboarding of new high-value clients, working with the sales team to ensure that forecasts are received and validated, and the timeline for delivery is well planned, communicated and executed on. Qualifications and Experience: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field or CIPS qualification will be valued. Experience: Proven experience as Head of Purchasing, or similar senior leadership role, ideally with a knowledge of the food packaging industry or a similar fast-moving environment. Strong track record of driving commercial performance (e.g., EBITDA growth). Demonstrated success in highly transactional roles with expertise in supplier negotiations and relationship management. Proven experience in leading transformation and change initiatives within procurement and supply chain functions. Skills and Competencies: Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
