Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an efficient, effective and reliable leader to join Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services as a Histopathology Operational Transformation Manager. Working with multi-disciplinary teams across different hospital sites.
The post holder will be a key member of the Departmental Management & Transformation Team providing leadership and support to ensure that the key objectives relating to the achievement of the service's short to medium term transformation objectives and any future changes to the business agenda are met.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work closely with the associate medical director, general manager and operational leads in Histopathology, service users (internally and externally) and other key stakeholders (such as the Cancer Alliance) in the transformation and development of the diagnostic Histopathology service. This will include the review, planning, implementing and monitoring of the departments improvement initiatives. With increased demand and complexity of testing the post holder will be pivotal in supporting the team in delivery of a high-quality diagnostic service. They will support the individual section leads in the identification and delivery of waste reduction schemes identified as part of the improvement work.
Job responsibilities
* Ensure 3 of 6 histology improvement plan interventions implemented
* Provide bimonthly updates to SSCA and provider trusts of plan progress with realistic agreed timescales
* Achieve a clear target operating model for workforce with business case
* Deliver improved resilience in histology service
* Ensure histology service TAT consistently >80% 10 day TAT for USC
* Ensure histology service TAT consistently >80% 14 day TAT for routine
* Deliver a business case for histopathology automation options

Qualifications
Essential
* Specialist professional knowledge over more than one discipline acquired over a significant period e.g. In depth professional knowledge in more than one of the following; financial management, performance management, information systems, staff management, project / change management acquired though Masters / equivalent training and experience over a significant time.
* Commitment to continuing personal development and identifying own development needs
Desirable
* Qualification in 6 sigma/lean methodologies
* Specialist portfolio in biomedical science discipline or equivalents e.g FRCPath part 1 or above
Experience
Essential
* Significant recent experience of working in an NHS provider organisation in a senior management position, managing large scale complex projects / change programmes, building engagement and involvement to ensure sustainability
* Demonstrable experience in leading and shaping a positive culture
* Demonstrable experience in successfully monitoring delivery of strategic plans, including taking appropriate corrective action in a timely manner involving uncertainty and has impacted across whole organisations
Desirable
* Detailed understanding of NHS governance and architecture (particularly around Group structures and organisational combinations)

* Leadership and management skills, with the determination to achieve high standards of excellence
* A demonstrable track record of empowering clinicians to successfully design and deliver services that transform and improve patient care
* Ability to communicate complex and contentious issues both in writing and verbally to a wide range of individuals and groups

* Keen interest in the NHS and in providing a public service - a strong commitment to making service improvements and achieving positive outcomes for patients
