Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine
As an organisation, we recognise the value of a healthy work-life balance. When applying, speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate flexible working, so your work life fits around your home life.
We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates as they are under-represented within the Trust.
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Foundation Trust (UHBW) has an exciting opportunity for a fixed-term consultant locum to support service delivery. The posts provide eligible individuals an ideal opportunity for continued professional development within the recently expanded Department of Emergency Medicine (ED), which forms the Trust’s Emergency “Front Door”.
This post provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to work in a busy inner-city University Foundation Trust. The post is based in the adult side of the department, serving the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI). This is a 10PA post providing 8.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA. The Trust is committed to supporting the Department as the Trust’s emergency “front door” and the aspiration is for further consultant expansion to allow sustainable consultant working for the future.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join a team of senior medical and nursing staff committed to expanding the Emergency Service to the people of South, West and Northwest Bristol. The common aim will be to deliver the highest quality of Emergency Care to patients whilst developing the department in all aspects of emergency clinical service, training and research. Close teamwork between senior medical, nursing and management staff is an essential requirement of this appointment. The Emergency Department receives in excess of 200 patients per day, incorporating a significant proportion of presentations reflecting its inner-city location. The successful candidates will be expected to work alongside established consultant colleagues to provide shop floor presence 08:00-00:00 seven days per week. Applicants should have a CCT or equivalent in Emergency Medicine or be within two months of achieving this at the date of interview, or be listed on the GMC’s specialist register.
The appointee will be responsible for diagnosis and emergency treatment of patients presenting to the adult Emergency Department. They will also have clinical responsibilities within the ED Observation Unit and possibly ED SDEC. The AMU accepts direct GP referrals to the in-patient medical teams which may also be admitted through the SDEC. However, any patient who requires resuscitation is brought to the resuscitation room in the ED.
