The Role
As Regional Director, you will be responsible for leading the planning team in the York office, managing and leading the office, and encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration. The role also involves assisting the Director of Planning in managing the Planning Division and acting as an ambassador for the company by winning new business and helping to develop the business.
We have an over 80-strong team nationwide, capable of delivering projects at any scale. The Regional Director will build and generate opportunities across all sectors, including Residential, Commercial, and Assets and Estates, with both new and existing clients.
The Position Will Involve
* Client liaison to attract further work, ensuring clients can work independently without higher-level involvement
* Networking skills to build contacts within the industry and with planning authorities
* Developing and maintaining relationships with clients and colleagues
* Leading presentations and producing reports with minimal input from seniors
* Using technical knowledge to identify and realize client opportunities
* Negotiating contracts and managing legal and contractual aspects
* Developing business with new and existing clients, targeting strategic and profitable jobs
* Making tactical decisions aligned with strategic goals and the regional Business Plan
* Leveraging professional reputation to create business opportunities
* Managing P&L, budget, profitability, and SHEQ for areas or projects
* Planning future resources and liaising across divisions for effective utilization
* Managing significant projects independently to a high standard
* Providing technical leadership within specialized projects
* Managing planning appeals and appearing as an expert witness
* Preparing tender responses and conducting strategic planning and policy development
* Assessing development proposals through site inspections
* Guiding engineers and architects on planning submissions
Candidate Requirements
* An RTPI-accredited degree or Master's in a related discipline
* Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute
* At least 8 years of professional experience, including leadership in large schemes, preferably with private sector experience
* 3-5 years of people management experience at a strategic level
* Experience in transformational change and mentoring
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills
* Strong project management and organizational skills
* Proficiency in report writing and providing constructive feedback
* Knowledge of local politics and planning legislation in England and Wales
* Outstanding project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize workloads
