The purpose of the post is to deliver key functions of the Lifelong Learning and Employability service through one-to-one key worker engagement. This includes face to face delivery with a variety of learning/employability partners and local people in a group and one to one basis to:
- Increase and sustain positive destinations for all ages and abilities,
- Support those with additional support needs to secure positive outcomes
- Support successful transitions at key ages and stages.
The work areas above involve:
- Direct delivery of informal learning to support delivery of core and employability skills on an individual basis and through co-delivery of group work.
- Support adults and young people to participate in planned individual learning agreements
- Co-develop appropriate learning and employability curriculum materials and participate in evaluation process
- Liaise with providers of opportunities across the employability pipeline including employers and those offering placements.
- Input data into management information to support continuous improvement, create and support existing partnerships to increase operational delivery of learning and employability opportunities.
- This includes liaison and negotiation with Staff in local Schools, Further and Higher Education establishments, Employers, DWP, SDS, Adult Services, Children’s Services and Third Sector providers, Police and Fire Service.
MAIN DUTIES:
Support adults and young people within Midlothian to secure positive destinations through individual support and targeted interventions. Taking into account the needs and preferences of individuals and the potential matching to appropriate opportunities for learning, life and work. Support implementation of strategies to help adults and young people with additional support needs including challenging behaviour to secure positive outcomes for learning, life and work.
KNOWLEDGE :
Essential qualifications:
Fully trained jobholders must hold a minimum SVQ3 level qualification in Youth Work, or equivalent subject, and have experience supporting children and young people in an educational setting.
Youth Worker (B) Experienced jobholders who have not yet attained the SVQ3 level qualification in Youth Work or equivalent but are currently studying towards it will be paid at SCP 35.
Full clean UK driving licence.

Working Pattern: TBC - includes working evenings and weekends
Weeks per year: 1x 52 week posts, 2x 39 week posts
Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £30,243.53 per annum.
Based on 36 hours over 39 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £26,080.51 per annum.
