Role Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Payroll Assistant to join our team in Durham. The successful candidate will assist in processing weekly, 4-weekly, and monthly payrolls, ensuring all payroll deadlines are met and payrolls are delivered on time.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the day-to-day running of weekly, 4-weekly, and monthly payrolls.
* Maintain a working knowledge of PAYE/NIC and statutory payments.
* Understand and perform manual payroll calculations.
* Comprehend different pension schemes and auto-enrollment processes.
* Focus on attention to detail while handling large volumes of input.
* Proactively develop knowledge of systems and stay updated with new payroll legislation and compliance.
* Use initiative to solve problems, providing a range of solutions and seeking advice when necessary.
* Collaborate with other departments (Payroll, HR, and Finance) to understand the full process.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Relevant qualifications in payroll or a related field.
* Experience in managing payroll processes.
* Good IT skills, particularly in MS Excel and Word.
* Ability to work independently with strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Good numeracy skills.
* Ability to work to tight deadlines, prioritize and organize tasks, and manage time effectively.
* Demonstrate attention to detail and a dedication to accuracy.
* Ability to be flexible in a forward-thinking and changing environment.
* Not afraid to challenge processes, highlight gaps, and bring new ideas forward.
